There are other sources. If you don't like mine post one that disagrees.

Informed decisions, we tend not to get married just for the sex (many Catholics get hitched just so they have a reason to bump nasties...). And, we tend to have higher morals. Note also that the prison population is 74% Christian, 0.2% Atheist.

Just becuase a person identifies with a religion doesn't mean that the person is religious. The divorce rate for othodox jews is very low. Also interfaith marriges don't work out well. I am guessing this is the reason why there are so many divorces for the religious and a general increase from before there were as many inter mariges
. When people get married they are at the lowest spiritual time in their lives so they may not see religions a big factor but as we grow older we feel a stronger pull twords god. So when children come around they fight over what religion to raise the kids even if they agreed one way when they got married.

I don't think the waiting to have relations takes any part of this reasoning. In fact I bet that when the partners waited to get married there is a lower divorce rate.

I don't think the percentages matter when you break it down to non believers and believers. What matters is the total percentage between those that are divorced and those that are still married. People DO NOT truly know what true love is. If people knew, the total figures would be drastically different. You can have your differences in a marriage but a couple who is truly committed and truly feels love for each other, will deal with their differences appropriately and not in a way that is destructive.

Perhaps because they don't dive into a marriage just to have sex. They probably don't respond as readily to pressure to get married and have kids and don't feel a need to fullfill themselves through hooking up with someone. They probably have a more pragmatic view of relationships and don't enter one unless really committed, not just out of religious zeal. And they probably judge other people better and don't assume much about a person just because they go to church and talk about Jesus a lot. Atheists probably have more in common with each other on a more wide variety of issues than the average zealot.

The only thing, really, on the side of religious people is their notion that divorce is a bad thing and is a failure of some kind. Many religious people stay in bad marriages far too long, even abusive marriages. I guess that divorce has lost enough of that stigma these days that it is no longer as much of a factor in divorce decisions.

Lastly, and manybe more importantly, Christian zealots (and any other zealots) are just really annoying to be around. There's just not much variety to their life, except their obsession with their religion. They tend not to be too pleasant to be around for any length of time.

one reason why the divorce statistic among non-Born again adults is not higher is that a larger proportion of that group cohabits, effectively side-stepping marriage--and divorce--altogether. "If the non-born again population were to marry at the same rate as the born again group, it is likely that their divorce statistic would be roughly 38%--marginally higher (>3%) than that among the born again group, but still surprisingly similar in magnitude."

A Christian marriage is under constant spirtual attack by Satan. Whereas an Atheistic marriage is less of a target. If you dont believe in Christ then why would Satan try to attack you, youre right where he wants you already. Attacking a Christian marriage is good strategy to try and break a persons faith. That would be my guess as to why the data shows this (assuming it is a reliable source)

Well, I will agree that there are some people who get married for the sake of getting married or even just for sex. People get married for all kinds of reasons. Some Christians I know, yoke up with the wrong person, thinking they can change that person. People who are going to marry should be "like minded". Today you have Christians marrying non believers. It just wont work. There's going to be major problems if this happens. Non-believers are like minded. It works for them.

Maybe because they can't believe that it can get any better?

Those statistics must be skewed really. The national average is 38%. What you've posted here puts the national average at 20%. So where is the missing 18%?

They just live together without the benefit of a certificate, therefore divorce not necessary.
Those who profess to be Christian at least get the recognition (hopefully) of a ceremonial union with the accompany certification.

Lets see.....because we don't get our panties in a bunch about religion and what the other person believes? Naw, that couldn't be it........could it?

LeBizzle? Are you actually saying that Satan causes divorce? Do you really believe that nonsense? Where is the personal responsibility?
