They don't believe, and a lot of believers are caught up in the materialism of this world. My mother taped this saying to my dresser mirror when I was a child, it said," only one life , soon will be passed, only whats done for God will last." One day, all the material things that people have accumulated will belong to someone else, and they will stand before the judgment throne to give an account for their spiritual lives. God is not going to say, "now let me see how much money you accumulated, and this will determine how I judge you" He will look into your heart and he will either say, "well done my good and faithful servant" or "depart from me I never knew you" It doesn't take rocket science to know which group you would prefer to be in.

Why?
They are tempted and lured by all the happiness, joy and recognition that they would gain if they are having a lot of material things. However, these happiness, joy are so temporary that you would never feel satisfied by the money, cars, things you have.
They believe that with those things, they can buy everything. It is not so though. Love is not to be bought using money, integrity is not to be sold, and eternal satisfaction can never be purchased. By helping others, loving people, you would gain real happiness. I believe that by loving someone (including in a romantic way), your life would be more meaningful. And that feeling of life is so different from those you get when you bought a new DVD Player or watched the Box Office Movie. It is so amazing - Love.
They should learn more about spiritualism and learn to forget the material aspects of life.

By the way, people have *always* been after social status and prestige -- and wealth. As long as there have been people. That's certainly nothing new. Read some history (and learn how to spell) :)
