He's 3-yrs old, neutered & 1 of 3 other house cats (in a large living space) - 1 other neutered male cat (brother & formerly best buds), and 2 females. He was the "greeter", never shy, "talked" too much, very outgoing ..for a cat. 3 weeks ago, he began fighting with one of the females. He ran into the kitchen (Personally, not the place I'd pick for him to seek isolation) & has stayed in there since - except to run out & use the litter box, which I moved right outside the kitchen door (so he would stop using my countertops!). Nope - I cannot & will not have company over until this is remedied.
I've tried luring him out to no avail. I've made the noises in the kitchen I know he can't stand (rustling of paper, aluminum foil..any loud noise) & he'll run out then run back in.
Anyone out there have any idea what's happened, why & what I can possibly do to "fix" this?

Don't frighten him anymore than he is already by making all those noises with aluminium and the such. Your cat has been scared off by the female cat he fought with. She must be an alpha female. What you need to do is establish YOURSELF as the ALPHA animal in the house and all the pets submissive to YOU. This might seem harsh, but what I would do is restrict the alpha female for a while by placing her in a kennel or cat carrier (after she has eaten, peed and poo'ed) for several hours during the day (or night) and place the cat carrier or kennel in a place where the frightened male can observe her. He will soon realize that the female cannot get at him. He will come out, move around and begin re-building his confidence. After awhile, let the female cat out but stand by to observe. As soon as she makes any aggressive moves (hissing, growling, getting grissly), stop it right away by squirtung her with a water pistol or making a loud sound (clapping your hands). If you do this regularly, she and all your cats will realize that YOU rule the roost and aggressive behavior will not be tolerated.

Hmmm, sounds like he got his feelings hurt. When he fought with the female, did he loose the fight? Does the female go into the kitchen?
Maybe the best way to get him out of the kitchen is to bring the female into the kitchen. Then he wont be able to hide in there licking his bruised ego.
Good Luck.

This could be a very serious medical emergency. Are you sure he is urinating? Cats most often "hide" when they are ill. If he is getting blocked from urinating he could die with 48 hours from renal poisoning. Please take the cat to the vet today to see if this could be the problem. When you have ruled that out you can work on behavioral reasons for his hiding. And his life is in danger if the cause is medical.

it could take an prolonged time for peace to interrupt out between a sparkling cat and a resident one. the two sense threatened. at last they're going to tolerate one yet another yet might constantly be careful. ensure you provide them the two an identical interest, rather whilst they might see what you're doing - do no longer puppy one and forget approximately the different. I truthfully have have been given fairly sturdy at stroking one with each and every hand! If spraying with water does not discourage the recent cat from leaping up on counters you are able to desire to besides provide up on it and attempt some thing else. She isn't being naughty at this degree as she does not understand you do no longer approve. each and every time she does it purely carry her down gently yet firmly announcing "No, Down" in a extremely loud enterprise voice. finding on how vibrant she is (they do variety plenty) she would have the ability to at last get the message. it would desire to no longer provide up her altogether yet she would have the ability to get a accountable ethical sense approximately it and might at last respond just to you announcing it, rather in case you're saying it loudly and clap on an identical time to make her leap. you additionally can attempt making the counter appropriate scent of a few thing she dislikes so as that being there is not any longer intense high quality for her. maximum cats dislike the scent of oranges which you would be able to attempt that. or you are able to desire to for a time sprinkle the tops with pepper, which she would have the ability to hate - a discomfort for you even with the undeniable fact that it would desire to be properly worth it! in case you have a male and a girl are they the two neutered? If no longer you are able to quickly have greater cats to tension approximately! The boy could quickly exchange his thoughts approximately liking her if she got here on warmth.

Your kitty probably isn't feeling so hot. Cats hide when they are sick. Time to visit the vet...
