I am going to a Halloween party next weekend and the hostess is making chili. Guests are bringing a variety of side dishes/desserts/drinks, etc. What is something easy and complementary to chili?

corn bread or corn muffins. you can also bring something with fruit to compensate for the hot chilli taste, or even ice cream would be great.

Just set up dishes of tortilla chips, fritos, chopped white onions, sliced green onions (scallions), sliced jalapenos, sour cream, shredded cheese. And bottles of hot sauce. Then everyone can fix their chili the way they want. We did chili this weekend- the weather was nice, so we grilled some hot dogs and brats and people could have those and put chili on top if they wanted. Cornbread is always a great side, and some people like baked potatoes.

Japanese sticky rice is my favorite. But, for a potluck, I would reccomend Pan De Sal. It's Philippino sweet bread that you can find in many Asian stores and bakeries. If you can't find it, the rolls by Hawaiin King are very similar. Bring a lined basket and fill it with the rolls (add some regular dinner rolls) at the party.

Try something that will counter the spiciness of the chili, like a fruit salad, or a selection of sliced cheeses for example.

And you can never go wrong with cornbread.

Rice or baked potatoes? French fries? Corn bread? We usually just have chili with crackers most of the time...

Fresh fruits are easy and complementary to EVERYTHING.

A variety of Melon, strawberries, cherries, grapes, etc.

I would stay away from the citrus fruits cause they may be too acidic to go with the chili.

Spaghetti and put the chili over it. Add some shredded cheddar to top it off and noone will go home hungry. I guarantee it! You can also bring chopped onions too if you like!

Corn bread, small baked potatoes (remember the cheese). Or how about fixings for nachos...assembled using your hostess' chili?
