Over the past several months I have been prescribed several different antidepressants. They all seem to have an effect that even other people notice. But after about a month of anything new, even a dosage increase, they all seem to quit working. Has anyone else had this problem?

If you feel them "kicking" at first but now you don´t feel a thing it´s because your body assimilated them and also is used to the feeling. I had the same problem, gradualy i stopped taking them and traded them for more sleep, more exercise and a better diet, not just for the body but also for my mind. If you think pills will solve your problems like a magic antidote, you are fooling yourself. If you have a group, therapy or are really doing something to change your life you are in the right direction i think. Drugs are ok but only for a while. Try breathing a lot, quit coffee, quit anything that may alter your nerves.

There is a new theory of depression that says there are some people who need to take two or three anti-depressants at one time for them to have a lasting effect. My wife was taking them one at a time and still felt miserable until she found a doc who would prescribe three at once. That did the trick for her. Seems the drugs all work differently in your body, and some people need all three. There's one that replaces dopamine, one for serotonin and a third for endorphins... something like that.

Oh yes.. the only one I found to work is Wellbutrin NOT the time release one, I have horrible side efficets from all the others. I dont take anything now, I just kinda take one day at a time. I feel pretty good, I have a pill to take when iam real stressed out. But I would try that if you havent all ready, ask for the dose that they give to people who try to quit smoking (Zyban) its the same thing, it helped a lot. Good Luck

honestly i dont think that you should be taking any untidepresants cuz there is NOTHING that you cant change.. its your life ... your feelings and you CAN control them without any help of the pills... i have tried untidepressants and they didnt have any effect on my whatsoever.. then i realized that i can deal with it myself and no need any help from the doctrs.. i mean i know myself better than anyone and what can a doctor tell me about me that i dont know.. its all in your head and you can control it... on the other hand if you have any suicidal thoughts then you SHOULD see a doctor ASAP!!! other wise depression is just the period of time when you are really confused and have too many emmotions to understand and find the solution for them.. take a brake think about everything.. and then move on.. you life once and shouldnt waist time.. enjoy your life and make yourself as well as others happy!!! NEVER GIVE UP!!
good luck!

the anti-depressants are prescribed for depression but if they don't seem to be working you may have a more serious problem..I know for years they thought I was just depressed but i then after trial and error they discovered i was bi_polar..It is a horrifying illness because even my medications sometimes don't keep my depression and mania away..I am up and down like a roller coaster..but you just might need to check into the bi_polar thing..It has serious complications..Good Luck and i hope you can find what your looking for..

Talk to your doctor, there must be SOMETHING that will work for you. There are many different brands of antidepressants out there, I am sure you will find the right one in the end. Good Luck!

Try truehope.com. I would stay away from psychiatrist if you have never had any luck with medications as they will only make things worse for you.

Yes I had the exact same problem. They would work for a month and then it just stops, so I went off them.

i've not had that problem....but I think regular exercise (doesn't have to be overly strenuous) for at least 45 minutes can really help---it helps me.
Also try supplementing your diet with B vitamin complex & fish oil.

i would talk to my doctor and ask if there is anything else i could take, they have meds out now that are supposed to help but you also have to work on yourself maybe seeing someone would help and figuring out the basis of your problem..
