He is probably young. Just keep at it, and he'll go along

What idiot told you to spray water in the dog'sface??!!!
If it is a puppy, coax and make a game of it by talking to him, patting you leg, wiggling your fingers, using your voice and hands.
If it is an older or larger dog, the resistance is probably due to dislike of restraint - quite common insome breeds. In that case, go get some 1/4 -3/8 inch soft nylon rope. You will need about 10 -12 feet. Get a snap to tie on one end of the line. Use a slip collar (an adult Akita will win with a flat collar.) Hook the line to the collar. Bring the line down the dog's left side and around behind his haunches and up his right side. Now run the loose end through the ring of the collar (same one that has the snap.)
Have the dog on your left. Hold the line so there is some slack between you and the dog but keep it taut enough so that the line doesn't fall down his back legs.
Take a step forward and encourage him to come with you (nice, happy, loving voice - lots of "good boy." If he doesn't move, pull him forward with the line. When he moves at all (willing or unwilling) PRAISE him for each foot that steps forward. EVen as you are pulling him forward - PRAISE!
Do a little each day - "little" means 10-12 steps.
Lots of praise by petting and talking.

Try this instead.. Using a very short leash, stand next to the dog and give a gentle tug. When I say short, I mean no more that six or eight inches. You want the dog to walk at your heal and by keeping the tight reign, you will show him what you mean. When the dog does walk with you, give him plenty of praise and a little doggie treat. Remember kindness and patience work much better than a spritz of water in the face.
If this doesn't work for you, contact your local library for books on dog training. There are many wonderful books out there. Good Luck!

Patience. Try getting the dog excited about going outside. Then place the leash on. WHat type of collar do you have on ?? I am assuming it is a Choker type. Try draggin the dog. Not far maybe 10-15 feet. Is the dog still resisting ?
You have to stay with it though. The dog doesnt go out to the bathroom unless he is on a leash. How old is the dog ??

I've had great success with a "pinch collar". It simulates a mother dog's bite.
A short, quick tug upright on the leash along with a command
and your dog will get it in no time.

Take your dog to obedience classes. Spraying water or hitting the dog will not motivate it to be your friend.

It will take time and patience but the main thing is you have to let him know who's in control. Make sure you never let him lead, it's important that you do the leading.
