What's the point of court-ordered breathalyzer car ignitions for drunk driving offenders?

Couldn't they just have a spouse, friend, or kid blow into it for them? This looks like another waste of taxpayer dollars.

I agree with you. Just another way to suck huge amounts of
money from a 1st time offender & another way to rip off
taxpayers.
Does law enforcement use common sense or do they just
speak from their wallets?

You got it! Just wednsday I watched DR.Phil,he had a 22yr old girl on there,that already had 2 D.W.I.'S,she drank everyday and would get so drunk that in the mornings when she had to go anywhere,she would still be drunk.So,her DAD would blw into it for her so she could go to the store to probably get more booze!That's a waste of taxpayers dollars,just like these ankle things they put on sex offenders.On an episode of Dateline not to long ago,there was this sex offender that had raped I don't know how many kids,and killed one.Well the state figured he served his time,and released him with one of those tracking things.He figured out a way to get the thing off,and leave it at home while he went out and raped more children,and killed again.Our laws in this country reward the criminals,and the abused and their families are left to pick up the pieces,and try to get on with their lives.The state will provide COUNSLING for the offenders,but the families have to pay for any kind of counsling.As a surviver of a rape myself,I for one am sickened by the so called LAWS in EFFECT.The "MAN" if you can call him that,that raped me had been out of prison for the 3rd time for rape,only 2 days.I was one of 6 women he raped in a 2 day span!Myself and the other 5 women were offered counsling.They were supposed to call us and set up times for us.No one ever called,so we got together to take turns calling to ask when we were going to get our sessions set up,all we got were excuses.I didn't have insurance,so I just tried to DEAL with it.Sixteen years,two failed marriages,and a drinking problem later,I finally started with counsling almost a year ago.And I'm starting to feel like I can leave the house,without having panic attacks.But the Post traumatic stress,the doctor said will always be with me.So to sum it all up,our laws SUCK!

P.S. I vote every time there is a law to try to pass to keep these scumbags off the street.And nothing gets changed.So no one can convince me that the people voting makes a difference.It doesn't.You shouldn't even have to vote on what should happen to this kind of trash,COMMON SENSE should be the law in congress.You violate any person,especially children.Death penelty!!!!I don't care what these people think about the death penelty being cruel,I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did.Sorry I got so longwinded here,but I'm passionate about where the tax payers $ goes.

I see your sardonic humor. yet does no longer be that a point of intrusion unacceptable to human beings? What with regard to the farmer who's vacationing on his very own land? How approximately installation a breathalyzer on each and every IRS 1040 style? does no longer prefer human beings doing their taxes with a bottle of bourbon on the table could you? greater advantageous yet, to maintain the well being, secure practices, welfare and morals of the community (that's what the "Police Powers" are for) how approximately we dispense with all that top tech nonsense and rather make everybody stay in a padded room, without ability kit. could ability kit come geared up with a breathalyzer? How approximately hammers? greater everybody is killed with hammers than with weapons. do no longer mess with my motor vehicle or you will discover horseshit on your highway. there are thoughts ;)

Yes they could, I did it for my friend once. However some of them actually go off while driving and you have so many seconds to blow or it shuts the car down.

no it doesnt work like that. if you are ordered to have one guess what you pay for one taxpayers dont. it is a real good thing it makes you think about it everytime you drive and dont blow hot if you shut off your car with a high BAC then you have to pay someone to come out and reset it.

I think it is a periodic thing. It is a good idea, but if you think about it, the friends should not blow for him/her and if that person is sober then why arrent they driving?
