Go to the American Kennel Society web site...they list breeders by breed and I believe by state. If not contact a breeder for the breed you like and ask for a recommendation from them.
I have used AKC breeders in the past and had very good results..I hope you have a good result too. Good Luck.

Remember that you'll get what you pay for. The reason that quality animals cost more is because the 'responsible' breeder has spent generations breeding out unwanted hereditary problems. Example: An acquaintance of mine got a deal on a Pomeranian. She paid $400 -- and since has spent over $2500 in vet bills, and the animal will never be "right".
Properly bred dogs will come with a guarantee of health for at least 2 years, and you'll be provided with a pedegree that goes back at least 4 generations. You can go to WWW.AKC.ORG, and find out all you want to know about the breed, and even get the names of good breeders. Call them and email them, and get to know what lines (pedegrees) you want and which are not desireable. You can usually find a quality show breeder, with a litter, that has pet quality puppies for sale. You get the breeding, but for some reason, they aren'f considered good enough for the show ring. The averange person cannot tell the difference, and you're getting the temperment and health qualities of the show dogs. Pay the extra couple of hundred, and you'll save much more than that in vet bills and peice of mind. REmember that you're getting an animal that's going to be with you for 10+ years.

not sure where you can find a 'good' priced one, but you will definately pay more for a frenchie than a boston, frenchies being less common. the ones that are priced high are usually from a responsible breeder that does health testing. if you want a cheap quality undetermined puppy check your paper. if you want a good quality puppy check www.akc.org for a list of breeders near you for the 2 breeds.

If If you don't want to pay an arm or a leg, and I don't blame you, I would look at the dogs listed on Petfinders. I have seen lots of purebreds and lots of puppies, as well as older dogs. Just type in your zip code and search. You could also check with rescue organizations where you live.If you find the dog you want from either place, you also be saving a life.
Good luck and Happy Birthday :-)

If you live in Ontario (or plan to move to Ontario) Make sure your bulldog is muzzled, tied up and/or kept inside at all times. That's the law!
