I currently work a doctors office, and there are people here with facial piercings and tattoos. I have both, they've never been an issue. When I worked at the hospital I saw several nurses with piercings and tattoos. There were also a couple M.D.'s that were tatted up.
I really don't think it's so much the field you work in, but the mindset of the company and the people in your geographic location.

Funny that someone said you won't get a desk job with tattoos and piercings. I have many visible tattoos and 23 piercings, a good chunk of those visible.
I work in a marketing company during the day and at a tattoo shop after work doing piercings. My day job is highly professional, but my boss just sees the importance of doing your job, not what color your hair is or what metal you have through your face.
I got lucky, but changes are you won't be able to get your body mods and find a company accepting and open to the idea that your tattoo has nothing to do with your performance. If you had your own business later, it wouldn't matter, but I wouldn't go too extreme.

well if you are going to own a business it should be no prob. I know there is a steroetype for people with tattoos but our generation is going to be more acceptable to them! Retail stores or any hip place to shop, likes that look!!
But if I were you I would try to make sure you can always hide them with clothing before you get them done. I have one on the front of my lower leg and I can't wear capris or shorts to work. Other than that tattoo all my others are hidden!!

I worked at a well known Credit card company as a recptionist for HR so I delt with all of the Interviewees comeing in and they had no problem with either.... if you show that you are a good hard worker most people are more accepting of art these day... Now I'm a buyer for a well known industrial electrial and areomotive company. It's just depends on how lucky you get with who you are interviewing with and how professional you can be even though you have body mods.

Depends on what you want to do. The main thing is where you work if the supervisors believe that you must 'cover up'. Working in a bar(not a restaurant) sort of set up is big on that. You got a sexy tattoo and your the bartender, with a little flirt, charm, and a giggle you get extra $$$ for a tip!
On the flip side, working in an office, yeah. No one would have a problem.
Overall whever you work it shouldn't become a problem. If you don't get hired at the interview, you can sue saying he/she was discriminate against you and tattoos.

you can work in an office, if you cover up your tattoos and piercings... but then it's like what's the point, right?
actually, if you work at a publishing company, tattoos are usually accepted. when i worked at one big publishing house that will remain unknown, everybody i worked with had a tattoo. i felt so left out, i got one. but i got it on my back... so i can't see it and neither could anybody else 'cuz i wear a shirt... stupid me. but it also depends on what department. you might not see a lot of tattoos in the finance dept, but maybe in design, art, or production.

right now i am a waitress at pizza hut and they accept my tattooes and piercings. also many jobs have no problem with these things. i am fixing to start in a nursing home and they are also fine with it. so not many jobs will turn you away for your personal decisions

i know alot of people that are working in shops and pubs that have them me included I think more employers are accepting of them now, but some will always be against it. Alot of office jobs are not too keen on this but I am not sure why as you are more likely to be speaking to people on the phone than face to face unlike shop and pub work.
