Statement: Christianity teaches fear and intolerance. Please back up your statement with an example.

The reason I ask this is because several people are getting quite a bit of emails from people that obviously have been quite brainwashed. The emails include bible quotes as well as just some nasty hate mail from these so called "good christians". I get them because I defend Halloween as not evil.

I have seen this a lot. If these Christians are doing this. Why are no names mentioned?

People LOVE to humiliate people in a forum. Some people get off on that.

I don't believe it for a minute. Show me names. Let these people post the emails.

Halloween? What is wrong with it? That is one night a year my grandkids can dress up and act goofy, and get free candy.

The EVIL is in YOUR heart, not a stupid day or night.

Halloween, no more makes my kids evil than Christmas makes a person saved.

There's good and bad in all religions. It makes it hard to generalize an entire group. Those who normally do this, generalize based on their bad experiences with those followers. I personally try to give the individual a chance, and not pidgeonhole them into what I perceive of their religion.

Though, I find it in poor taste when people try to defend their own religion by saying that there aren't followers of that religion that are spreading hate and intolerance. They obviously aren't paying too much attention to the diversity within the questions and answers themselves.

I wouldn't worry about hate mail. Ultimately it lets you know exactly where that person stands... and those who spread hate usually only end up bitter, lonely people. I'm beginning to believe that's why we get so many, of ALL walks of life, in here. This is really the only place people will put up with that sort of thing. Most people wouldn't put up with it in real life.

I saw the Jesus Camp movie a few weeks ago. This is a prime example of the teaching of fear and intolerance by Christians. See my 360 blog if you are interested in reading about the film or check the link below for more information.

Christ did not teach fear and intolerance. He taught that you were to love thy neighbor as thyself and that that law (along with loving god) was the greatest law of all. It was the whole point of the parable of the good Samaritan! If you look at the geopolitical climate of the time and the various ethnic rivalries and prejudices, a good Jewish boy like Jesus or any of his disciples considering a Samaritan a 'neighbor' worthy of love was simply shocking.

People who send hate filled emails are not christians. They are not conducting themselves in a christ-like fashion.

I find it very disturbing that I, an Asatruar, born and raised into the religion, find many of the basic teachings of Jesus already implemented in my life (no conversion required) and yet so many of HIS "followers" do not! It's a good thing you don't have to take an oath to be a decent human being to be a 'christian'. Oath breakers and murderers end up in Nostrand.

They are brained washed, and are also taught to not even give any other ideas any credibility. They often do not even want to admit that any other ideas or religions exist.

Example: My parents-now dead. They had a fit when I converted to Judaism. For 30 years they hassled me to go back to the only true religion...Christianity. It got very bad at times. My mother even would start crying and saying that she and my father would go to hell because they had done such a bad job of raising me and I did not worship Jesus. Did I want them to go to hell? Etc.,. They could not understand why I was so awful as it would never have entered their mind to question their beliefs. It was what their family had always believed. I was turning my back on my family.

I must admit-it is nice not to be hassled anymore.

I am sorry you're getting hate mail over Halloween. There is no reason for that.

No all Christians are like that - I try not to be.

Some people are just very passionate about their faith. While that does not excuse them for the "hate" mail, I can understand their feelings. They are as passionate about their faith as you are of yours. Just use the delete button. I do all the time.
