I understand Italian as a result of studying French, Latin and Spanish. I have never come across anyone who was able to study it at school in the UK and most people who know it in the UK know it because of their home background (being Italian or of Italian extraction) or through studying it as adults. For example here its more studied English and french than Italian(talking about shcool system). I personally talk Spanish so i understand most of Italian, as long as they don't speak too fast. :P .Oh, btw i am from Romania.
