I have a 7 year old that has problems understanding certain simple things; i.e., he has a hard time understanding tallies. He isn't ADHD or has ADD because he isn't hyperactive, he isn't dyslexic and he can sit still for a long time and read a book and tell you what he read almost word for word. You ask him questions regarding the book and he can tell you characters and what the story is all about. When in class he seems to get distracted and cannot complete his work. When he brings work home and I get a note from the teacher saying that he could not do the problem, I explain it to him one time and he does fine. But there are simple things like tallies, he doesn't seem to understand and when I think he does and does a few problems by himself he does fine but then ten minutes later I would give him the same problems and he acts like he doesn't know. Is this a retention problem and maybe he does better on a one-on-one level? What would be the solution. Serious answers please.
