Wow! Ok - first, I assume the needle was removed INTACT?
Second - you MUST assume the needle was dirty (contaminated)
Third- you must assume the likelihood of infection whethere or not the needle was in vein or tissue (muscle) - doesn't really matter - infection is still infection.
Now - I hope you washed site of injection with soap and hot water and if non-abuser(you) washed site - then I hope you used GLOVES to protect yourself.
Antibiotic ointment and a bandage is about all that you could do insofar as first aid is concerned. 2 days later it's a little too late to apply heat or ice.
Just advise drug-user to look at site (on arm) and watch for any RED STREAKS going up or down their arm. This is a sign of a serious blood system infection. Also, if area around site gets more inflammed (reddened, harder, or changes colors - like going to black)...they NEED to go to nearest ER and get treatment ASAP. Because it could lead to blood poisoning or worse

Is it red or hot to touch? I,m asking because of blood clots. If its hot to touch and red and swollen it could be a blood clot. Do not rub the area. If it is and breaks loose then they will have a stroke heart attack or die.
The needle did not break did it?
If there is an infection and its gets out of control he could be in seriouse trouble and that can happen quickly.
Can you call a private doctor to look at the arm?

I think it is called a miss. The drugs went into the membranes instead of vein. I am sorry I cannot tell you how to handle this.
Another idea is Prepartion H. It is for swollen membranes. The person can rub this on their arm.
What you should think about is your safety and well being.
A drug user attracts all kinds of negative people and situations.
One possibility is the police coming to your house.

well, right now just watch for infection. use rubbing alcohol, then hydrogen perioxide, then neosporin and cover it. clean it regulary. is the needle stuck in his arm? or did it just jab him when he fell. if its still in the arm, you need to go to the hospital to get it removed or it WILL get infected and he could potentially die from the infection. what he needs to worry about is staph infections. if it looks like there is any boils or anything, go to a DR. my uncle was a herion addict and used to get staph infections. he eventually died from it all. he could have had his arm amputated, but it didnt get to that point.
he needs to go to a dr. if he's not high right now, there is nothing they can do except treat the wounds. just make sure he doesnt have any drugs or needles or anything on him.

keflex(cephelaxin) will get rid of the infection if its not real bad,but if its too bad they will have to go to the dr or they could lose their arm!listen , go to yahoo groups and theres a site called"the methadone site" you may have to sign up but its no big deal, there is some photos on that site you and your friend needs to see,http://health.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/methadone/photos,talso read the posts by the man that posted the photos, and see what your friend is risking, ok.

they are probally gonna have to go to the doctor, although they don't want to. Maybe they should use some alchol or peroxide to dry it out instead of keeping it covered in bandages.. Good luck and I hope they are able to kick the habit. :(
