I am looking for financial help for our daughters speech and occupational therapy's. we live in Ohio. Thanks.

Question

Our daughter has apraxia.She is 6 years old. She has been taking speech and occupational therapy 3 times per week, but my husband has new insurance and won't cover the therapys. Medicaid (medical card) will only cover 12 therapy sessions a year. BCMH won't help and we have tried about 6 total organizations, even easter seals. No one seems to be able to help us. Please let me know if there are any organizations or grants that may help us.

Call the local school. I am not sure how it is in your state, but in Texas you can get help through the school system. Also check for rehab programs that use a sliding scale if your insurance does not cover it. I hope you find something. There should be a orginaization in your state for Early Childhood Intervention...sometimes you could get a referal from a doctor or do a web search to find it in your state. Try the link below. I've been told that each state is required to provide these services for every child, even those who can't afford the services. I'm not sure where you could look, but it wouldn't hurt to contact the ACLU. They can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but when my sister needed some extra help due to a learning disability, they were great advocates for her, and she got it and is now a college graduate. And someone at her elementary school, the counselor or diagnostician or special education teacher should also know of where you can get services for her. Good luck.

If she is in public school and has an IEP (Individualized Education Program) the school should be covering those services.

did you try your school district? they should have some sort of information to help you. they should be able to help.
