Who built your system? 3ghz with 256mb ram? Wow, recipe for disaster...WinXP is okay with 256mb ram however it is much better with 512, 1gig even better or more.

Personally, I would dump Norton as well...it likes to do all kinds of funky things with a system sometimes ... there are a number of virus scanners out there that are far better...do a search on "best virus scanner" and check out others. Norton likes to grab a huge hunk of the computers resources and with the ram you have, plus XP fighting for most of it...your system will bog down.

Upgrade ram, grab some of the free spyware scanners out there today and keep a min. of two of those programs to check your system...Adaware, Spyware Search and Destroy etc will keep your system clear of ad and spyware. Get a better viral scanner.

Good luck with this

The problem is Norton, First is slow , Second its bad and maybe you got a virus ! Go for something like kaspersky (free for 1 month to try it !)

Processor is good, memory is not enough upgrade to at least 1 gig of ram, minimum, more if possible. Then you will not have to remove any software. 2gig your computer will be flying.
