I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it off my apples. Washing them doesn't seem to get the wax off.

Its not something that belongs in your body so I assume it cant be good for you.Unfortunately I dont think theres much you can do to get it off. That stuff is like glue.

No they just use a paraffin wax that is not harmful if ingested.
Apples and cucumbers are two products that they spray the wax on to make the skin look shiny and prolong the shelf life of the product.
Just rinse with water and rub with a cloth or your pant leg.
You can also consider using a vegetable peeler to remove the skin but you'll be losing out on roughage which is an aid in digestion.

It's not supposed to hurt you or be bad for you. I remember a product that came out on the market recently that you can wash your fruit with - it's in a squirt bottle like Fantastic & other spray on cleaners, but this was specifically to wash fruits & get the wax off. Check your local stores & see if they carry it. Also, I know this sounds strange, but try washing the apples in dishwater with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Rinse them off thoroughly, of course! but that might do the trick. I should think it would, but good luck!

It isn't bad, but if the produce wasn't clean when it got waxed, it's going to hold in the dirt and pesticide residue.

Try some of those vegetable sprays. It really helps remove a lot of the wax. (I can never get the wax off cucumbers)

There's these little plastic brushes to clean vegetables and fruits. I have one in the shape of a carrot. Since it's plastic, it won't damage the apple. That might get rid of the wax. Try it.

Wax on fruit isn't good for you. To remove it, I think soaking is supposed to be the best way. Perhaps in some cold water, with a little lemon juice. It can't hurt, anyway!

Try some farmer's markets for buying your fruit. Growers bring their produce direct and they display and sell without using wax. Stores add this stuff to make the food look more attractive to buy and eat.

It's fine for you to eat. I usually just rinse my apples and wipe them with a paper towel.

If it really bothers you, get a vegetable brush so that you can scrub your fruits and vegetables when you wash them.
