Israel was fighting back against Lebanon who attacked first.

Hezbollah which is a military force in Lebanon fired rockets and mortars at Israeli military positions and border villages to divert attention from another Hezbollah unit that crossed the border and captured two Israeli soldiers and killed three. So Lebanon started it! Israel responded with massive airstrikes and artillery fire on Lebanese civilian infrastructure, which Israel said Hezbollah was using, an air and naval blockade,[18] and a ground invasion of southern Lebanon.

The conflict killed over 1,500 people, many of whom were Lebanese civilians, severely damaged Lebanese infrastructure, displaced about 900,000 Lebanese and 300,000 Israelis.

On 11 August 2006 the United Nations Security Council unanimously approved UN Resolution 1701 in an effort to end the hostilities. The resolution, which was approved by both Lebanese and Israeli governments the following days, also called for the disarming of Hezbollah, for Israel to withdraw

Israel has withdrawn from their failed attack on Lebanon. Israel used the capture of 2 Israeli soldiers as justification to kill thousands of Lebanese civilians in an effort to gain a "security buffer zone" that just happened to include the Latani River. the Latani River was the true reason Israel tried a scorched earth attack tactic against Lebanon. water sources such as the Latani River are highly desirable in arid desert regions. Israel used cluster bombs on civilians targets which is against International Law. the Lebanese civilian population will be suffering death and maiming for many years due to American made Israeli cluster bombs and Zionist territorial avarice.

PS. soldiers are not "kidnapped". soldiers are "captured". applying such emotive words as "kidnapped" to well armed and well trained military personnel is disingenuous.

Israel was not attacking Lebanon. It was attacking Hezbollah. And, Hezbollah has their people hidden among the civilian population to ''protect the fighters of Hezbollah''. Israel had no choice, as Hezbollah put them in this situation.

My heart goes out to Lebanon. They fought a civil war for civil rights for the Muslims.. Now Hezbollah is taking it away from them.

Israel attacked Lebanon because a Lebanese group ambushed one of the Israeli troop camps. They kidnapped two soldiers and left the rest for dead. Israel wants their soldiers back and I havent heard of them letting the soldiers go free. All I have heard is that Isreal is coming to a point to sign a peace agreement with the Lebanese.
