Yes, because calories are a measure of heat energy, and you lose heat when you are inadequately protected from the cold. But don't think standing out in the cold weather is going to help you much; perhaps going skiing or other outdoor sports will be good for you, because the exercise speeds up your metabolism at the same time the cold air is carrying away the excess heat generated by the exercise. But just standing around will only make you get hypothermia and make you sick, possibly even give you frostbite.

I don't know if it exactly burns more calories.

When it's cold outside it's easier for heat to leave your body. The cold air is like a magnet for body heat. When it's hot out, the heat actually repels your body heat.

You could possibly overheat and have to rest more if it's hot out. If that's the case, you can't burn calories if you're resting.

Cold air might have a negative effect on the body too, though. But, it's my understanding that it's easier to exercise in cold as long as your body can stay warm enough to function.

Apparently you do burn calories when it's cold, but at the same time I wouldn't risk getting sick by staying in the cold trying to lose weight. However, that might be a way to motivate you to go outside and play in the snow. :-)

Yes. Your body tries to warm itself by shivering and other ways. Burning calories generates heat and your body is smart enough to know it.

Well, if you were shivering you would burn some calories. While I am not sure the exact amount, I have heard it isn't that much.

yes, it does, i don't know how much more, but that's why its better to walk when its cold. the reason you burn more calories is because your body is using them to try and warm itself by shivering.
