That would all depend on the age and health condition of your friend. If he is relitively young and healthy then he should be fine. It's not a pretty picture to watch someone go through something like that but in the end it's all worth it. The best thing you could do for him is to make sure you are there for him no matter what. Right now he needs a friend he can count on, even if he needs you at three am...it's worth the sacrifice to help him. I wish you the best of luck.

Yes a person can die from alcohol withdrawal. I know this from experience. Even in a hospital setting it can be dangerous. He needs to gradually wean himself off of alcohol by drinking a little bit less each day until he is not drinking anymore or he needs to go to a detox facility where he can be given meds to help with the withdrawal. Tell him good luck.

Have the person go to a doctor and find out what the likely-hood is for him to have a severe reaction to withdrawal from alcohol. It seems unlikely, but only a doctor can advise you correctly.

If he does die it wouldn't be from lack of alcohol it would be from him falling or jumping! I detoxed from booze & heroin many times often I felt I was gonna die but no booze or dope isn't a terminal condition!

It is not common, but the biggest thing is the shakes and the hallucinations. He may want to be under medical supervision if he gets trouble with these.

i wouldnt go as far as saying detox causes death.
but a lot of pain would be caused as the body tries to adjust to its sudden loss of dependent alcohol.
if it does result in death, its not physiological but psychological!

no you won't die, your friend might get sick if they are addicted though but that is just something they will have to work through if they want to quit
