bays at supermarkets etc.. this really annoys me especially when they haven't got any children with them!! Do you think that they should be fined or perhaps blocked in? What are your thoughts on this?

I think that they should have points taken off their club cards or something. I don't know but it annoys me aswell. There are enough employees in these super market car parks but they do nothing. Complain, thats all we can do!

I agree it is annoying when people park in these spaces who do not require them but I am a childminder who sometimes has three children to take to the store and I never park in them. I feel confident that I can walk safely with two tots and a buggy and therefore do not need to park within feet of the entrance. This said, I do wish there were more disabled bays for people who actually have difficulty in walking distances, having children can be tough but its not a disability!
And as for the 4 1/2 months pregnant lady who answered earlier, I do hope she can find someone to carry her around the store so her little feet dont possibly have to do any work! Shame on her, dont be so lazy!

For those people who have said why should mums get dedicate parking it because the bays are bigger so there is room to open the car door so you can get your baby/toddler out without hitting the car next to you with the car door.

If they were to move the 'mother and baby' spaces to the back of the car park you wouldn't get selfish lazy ars* people parking in the bays.

I have 3 children I only ever use the baby spaces at Tesco if I have the youngest with me (almost 2yo). If there are no spaces I will take up 2 normal spaces so I have space to get out my baby. I would never use a disabled bay.

Ooh a subject that gets my blood boiling!!!

At my local Tesco a week ago I was about to leave & an old lady pulled up in a parent & baby space next to mine, I looked in her car & didn't see a car seat but saw 2 dogs. She got out & saw me looking & said very sweetly "I don't have children but dogs are like children aren't they?" so I kindly replied "No not really, whilst my babies may wee everywhere & dribble a lot they are nothing like dogs!". She quickly scuttled away before I could say anything else!

I think overall there are 10 spaces for people with children as opposed to about 50 for disabled people. If we were to park in a disabled spot we would indeed receive a fine!

I think the same rules should apply for everyone but another thing that annoys me is the ATM parking spaces, I go to Tesco to get some money out & there are 2 parking spaces for the cash point, more often than not there are 2 cars parked in these spaces but nobody at the machines! I park behind the cars & if they come out they can't move unitl I have my money but when someone else has beaten me to this I have to park further away so have to get my daughter out of the car just to get some money! Argh!

I accidentially rated that pig Brett as good but I meant to click the other one! What an a*****e you are, show some consideration!

One more thing to add, you people who keep saying us parents are lazy & that's why we have to park near the entrance have you never wondered why parent & baby spaces are bigger than normal spaces?!?! Because we need more room to get our little ones in & out because some people clearly cannot park so leave only an inch for us to open our flaming doors!!!

yes i would block them in AND sit in the car and wait for them to come back then get out in front of them to go and do my shopping. if the said person complained i would then ask why they felt the need to use this parking bay when they could leave it for a parent with younger children. To me it's the same as parking in a disabled parking bay you should be clamped or fined. It's just pure laziness like getting in the car to nip to the shops two minutes down the road

Mostly because they are too lazy to walk the extra distance to the store. Same goes with disabled places.

I used to work for Tesco and this was (and still is) always happening. Unfortunately most of the big stores will not issue fines or clamp the people using the spaces without reason (mostly because they would loose custom). If you blocked them in they would probably just hit your car on the way out or worse attack you for it.

As for the person who said 'get a life woman' and other such messages they obviously do not realise how troublesome children can be (espcially todlers / terrible 2's) and just how dangerous car parks can be with children wanting to run in all directions to get to the sweets quicker (and thats just with 2 in tow!)

The only mother and children parking spots that we have around here are at Babies R' Us. As long as, they aren't parking in handicapped spaces, store owners really cannot do too much legally.

Is it right? No, but people are inconsiderate and you can confront them if you want to, but, you are doing so at your own risk.

And, no they shouldn't be fined or blocked in, the spaces are just a courtesy. These people just need to be acknowledged for what they did wrong.

IT really grates me, as a mother with 2 under 2 it is really difficult for me to get them both out of the galaxy from wither side !!
At my local Asda there are limited bays but the amount of "Wrinklys" that park in the mother and baby bays is a crime. They obviously feel that it is their god given right to park where they like ! I am continually challenging people if they dont have children or car seats in the car and all i get is abuse ! Asda dont do anything if you complain as their car parks are now run by the NCP company and there is no one there to police things all they suggest is to write to their head office ! GOSH IT MAKES my blood boil !! The thing i have started to do is to double park over two spaces !!

I don't drive, but I completely agree with you. I think that people who are that inconsiderate should have some inconvenience put against them...like a fine, but not blocking in, they would only be blocking necessary spaces for longer that way.
You should get their registration plate number, and take it into the supermarket. Have the customer service people read it over the tannoy system to ask them to 'return to their car immediately', then tell them when they get to the car that you are unhappy with what they have done....just a suggestion.
It is very annoying because, though I don't drive, I see that happen with people in supermarkets, and it is really frustrating, and my partner who does drive hates it too!

It annoys me too. They do it because they have no kids, and haven't a clue what its like, and they are lazy.
For those above that commented about why should mothers get preferential treatment and park close, let me just explain that firstly its not about that, its firstly about the convenience, but putting that aside, its the fact that these spaces are WIDER so that mums can unload the trolly with the kids, or the pushchair. So it isn't about lets park in the shop itself, it is the 'design' of the car spaces that makes them suitable for parents. I mean, otherwise we could argue the suitability of the spaces for disabled people. If they want to be treated equally, then why should they have special places to park. Half of them drive great new cars and are perfectly mobile. The bottom line is, consideration has gone out of the society, and thats all there is to it.

Maybe it should be a fine just like it is if you park in the handicap spots. I remember being 8 months pregnant, having the 2 year old with me and having to park all the way at the back since the other spaces were full and it really sucked. I would love to have been able to call the police and give them a fine.
