Our puppy is 6 mos old today and is still having accidents. Most of the time he'll sit by the door, but never barks, whines, etc. And if you don't see him sitting there he just piss where he wants. Then other times he'll just stop what he is doing and piss. Any suggestions.

Hopefully you crate trained him. That is one of the best ways to assist in housebreaking a dog. The bell idea listed above is something I have heard of before, and it works. Ring the bell evertime you take him out, soon he will associate the sound with going out. After a while of doing this, take his paw and hit the bell ever time you go out. Soon he will start associating hitting the bell with going out side. He should start ringing the bell when he wants to go out... but you could create a monster if he likes to play outside. Make sure to walk him frequently, and crate him when you cannot watch him. Walk him every hour or so, and right after he eats/drinks. Once you go a day without an accident, start lessening the number of times you walk him. If he has an accident in the house, walk him a little more and hold there for a while. Let him get used to it, then start the process again. Housebreaking a puppy is a long process, it does not just happen overnight.

BTW... to the girl who said boxers are a stupid breed... you're an idiot. Boxers are actually known to be an extremely intelligent breed. It probably is not the dog's fault it goes in the house, it is probably your mother's training...

I can help you here. Get real get a rolled up newspaper. It don't hurt but scares the crap out of the dog. Now wait until you catch the dog in the act. Just when the dog thinks its clear you whack the s*hit outta the dog w/ that newspaper. Firmly say noooo. Then take the dog outside immediately. Praise the dog when it goes outside. There should be no reason the dog sits at the door & dont get let out. It shows the dog wants to do right. When he/she is siting next to the door take the dog out. Puppies have to be able learn to control their blatter too. Every dog I have is trained fully before 4 months, potty anyway. Any dog is trainable, some take a lil longer than others. 90 of 100 times the owner is to blame. Don't worry the dogs household smarts come with time too.

He'll stop having accidents when YOU have suceeded in training him. He's busy being a puppy and needs reminding like any child would. After he eats & wakes up, take him straight out. Try keeping him in the same room with you and keeping an eye on him for his signals he may need to go out. best yet, take him out often, don't play with him or talk to him but for 'go potty' so he won't forget to go while outside, then when he does, praise him and play. Also, is he neutered? Male dogs love to mark their territory. Train him good now and you'll have a perfect pal for years.

Try hanging some bells on the door so he can push them with his nose to make noise so you know he needs out.
If he is sitting by the door he is trying to tell you he needs to go. If you are not seeing him he has to go and so he does.
You can not blame him for you not letting him out.
A 6 month old puppy should be supervised when loose in the house. If you can not watch him he should be crated or in one room where if he pees on the floor it can be easily cleaned up.

This is most common when people discipline dogs by hitting them. Training a dog is done most effectively with treats, rewarding positive behavior and hitting them only makes problems worse. Get a dog crate and crate train your dog. Don't scare the piss out of the poor puppy.

Take him to obedience classes and learn how to interact with the dog effectively.

We started taking the dog out when he sat by the door, then rewarding him with a dog treat for a successful trip. Before long he was scratching at the door to go out. Note: if he went out, but did not do his business - no treat. Worked for us.

Completely normal.

Take him out on a schedule. Reward him when he eliminates outside. When inside, watch him or confine him to prevent accidents. If he has one and you didn't see it (and why were you not watching him?!), you can't punish him. He won't make the connection. Punishment doesn't work for housetraining, anyway. Rewarding appropriate behavior does.

Your dog is telling you he needs to pee when he stands by the door, doesnt need to whine or bark, their not humans ya know. The only way you'll get your dog trained is to take it outside often, even when you think it doesnt need to go. Out often!

It depends on the dog. Some dogs are just stupid and never get it. My mom has a boxer that is two years old and she still mess's in the floor all the time. If your dog is a boxer good luck. Those are the stupidest dogs.
