I have short hair now that's getting to be almost ear length and I want to grow it down to about 2-3 inches above my shouldars , but im worried about it looking stupid and unkept in the process. What should I do so it looks like I have a constant hair style?

i.e. should i see if the barbars can thin it out or something?

Im white, I have perfectly straight hair and its very thin but i got so much of it that it gives my head like a puffiness look when it gets long , other times that i've tried to grow it out it ended up looking like a helmet on my head!

Good Question.
I've been growing my hair for about 2 1/2 months now, and this will be the second time I'm growing it long. I had it down to about my chin before. And yes, I know the pains of the ugly stage (about months 3-6) I'm sorry to say, you hair is not going to look great during this time. Depending on what kind of hair you have, it could be better or worse. I have very thick, wavy hair, and I'll say that thinning it does make it look better, but don't do it too much or too often. Also, you can get a relaxer treatment done or do it yourself (relaxer creme is about $4) I find the straighter my hair was, the better it looked. This is also something you must do rarely, as relaxer will burn and dry out your hair. Otherwise, keep the edges trimmed, all along the outline from ear to ear, and let the rest grow. I would suggest wearing a hat for now when you can, as this will also train your hair. Be sure to always push your hair in the same direction when you wear the hat. You can also trim it down closer to the edges, so it is not so bushy. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Have it trimmed and shaped as it is growing out, this will get rid of split ends and keep it looking nice, it will take it a little longer to get to the length that you want, but in the long run your hair will be healthy and it usually grows faster keeping it trimmed. Good Luck

Totally understand your situation. I came up against the same wall when I was trying to grow out my super short hair.

As my hair grew out, I searched through magazines to find a style that would look cute (for what length my hair was at the time). There are sooo many cute styles out there. My hairstylist also mentioned that even though I was growing my hair out, I still needed to get it trimmed regularly (so it wouldn't look shaggy).

i think of the terrific undertaking could be to enable it improve, yet each and every so frequently get a trim for lifeless ends, or possibly the area around the ears, rather whilst its purely commencing off to enhance out, the hair overlapping the ears is what makes it look messy and unprofessional. I recommend going with a layered or feathered look. check out the link for some astounding innovations!! i like #a million or #8 for the photos. desire you like it!

keep it trimmed... every 6 weeks at least... dead ends stunt the growth... try not to blow dry it too much, and believe it or not, mix shampoo with egg yoke and wash. This is an old remedy! I did it every day for a month before my senior prom 3 years ago and my hair looked amazing!... I still do it from time to time. Try not to put your hair in ponytails a lot either!

you could do that if you want to, but do you need to??? do you have thick hair??? because thinning out your hair will not really help your situation.
when you are trying to grow out your hair, one thing that we have to do is make sure we still get it trimmed, even though we are trying to grow it out, because if you don't trim it your ends will not be healthy, and will cause your hair to stop growing. your ends need to be healthy for your hair to continue to grow. and you will just have to learn to become inventive with your hair while you wait...get yourself some barrette's, and other clips that fit your hair, pull out the curling iron, and hair dryer, get yourself a rounding brush, and just start playing around with your hair, you will probably find a few different cute ways to have your hair...and if you hit a bad day, put on a baseball cap!!! they are great for bad hair days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you need to get something to help whith the "puffyness" its caused by humidity & if you have a lot of volume in your hair. also you can pull it back in a ponytail. when you get out of the shower just run a brush through it & put it up in a ponytail & it will keep it from going puffy also hair gels & stuff help with keeping it slicked back

Thining is going to make it look nappy...just get it trimmed id any one part gets out of shape...But untill then...try doing twisties in the front...where you take 1 in sections and twist them back then bobby pin them...
And the best way for hair not to look shaggy is to blow dry it

There is no way to do that! lol It has to go thru funky stages. What I did while going thru it was spend an hour fixing it, use lots of gel or sprays! lol Or you could always wear a hat?? Not being funny, it's just that it is hard to get thru it. It took me two years to finally get thru it becaue I kept cutting it when it made me mad.

You kinda have to go through a ugly stage, it's part of growing your hair out.
