Police officers only do this, if they suspect that a child is not properly restrained in the vehicle. It is an officer's job to serve & protect.

What's really sad, is that they have to protect a child against a parent's negligence. The parent should not only receive a fine, but should be referred to social services.

I don't even put my car in gear, until I make sure that all of my children are properly restrained. It is my job to make sure to keep them safe.

Well, at first my seven year old son was pretty upset about having to go back in a booster seat after a few years without but luckily he didn't complain too much. At first I didn't buy a seat, not for any reason, I just didn't get round to it! Then I realised my mum had one spare, from when my kids were smaller so now I have one. However, I have never been stopped and I seriously doubt I will be either. I do think it's a bit daft but then again, if it gives my son added protection in an accident then it must be a good thing.

I am raising two grandchildren ages 2 and almost 3. They have never gone anywhere without being in a car seat. My neighbor, on the other hand has been stopped twice for not having her daughter in a car seat. She received a $75.00 fine the first time and $150.00 fine the second. They told her if she is pulled over again for this, they are going to take her license away for 6 months.

No. I have never gotten stopped for that.
But did you know there is an improper way to install a car seat?

When you put the child's car seat in the seat and buckle it up you need to put you knee in the child's car seat an put all of your weight on it and then tighten the seat belt strap as tight as it can go.
If not installed properly the car seat can slide and even tip to one side and in an accident the child can be slammed against the inside of the vehicle. causing brain damage.

The local police station can show anyone how to properly install a car seat. In Florida they have demonstrations on how to do this.

I see all the time where kids are not even using a seat belt at all.
I was in an accident where a lady rearended me at 6mph and her child (a little girl) was sitting on the middle console (not in a seat belt) and when she hit me the child went into the windshield.
She was cut up bad and had to be taken to the hospital.

No,but i used a booster seat for the first couple of weeks, but my son is now over 4ft 5" & does not have to sit on it.
He has got a seatbelt strap though so it dnt rub his neck.
I would like to see a policeman stop people on the school run or at any time who children are not restrained, not the people who have.
my booster seat is still in my car & will stay there.
better to be safe than sorry. I think anyone that does travel without proper restrainting for there kids is a sad bastard & does not deserve kids.
I dont go anywere until my son has put his seatbelt on.

I've never been stopped, and never for that.

I'm glad to hear they stop people for that. Not putting your child in a proper car seat is child neglect.

I often see people doing this.

I did used to work for a court and having a non-restrained child was one thing the judges WOULD NOT plead down no matter what line the parents tried. Maximum fine and it was reported to insurance.

I thought it was great!

No.

I think the new laws about booster seats won't be enforced too heavily until the government has advertised that new rules properly.

Sales of booster seats have rocketed. I wonder if anyone close to the government has shares in any of those companies?

Any time I have been pulled over, my car seat has been working fine, so they never gave me either.
