Can a regular doctor prescribe you a low dosage, or any for that matter, of Zoloft, or do you strictly have to see a psychiatrist to get something like that? Becuase on the commercials it says to "See your practitioner for more details" or whatever so i wasnt sure..

They absolutely can. I got my Zoloft from my family doctor at the local walk-in clinic.

You are playing doctor with your drugs, including the prescription Zoloft. The alcohol and nicotine are giving you temporary relief. It takes awhile being on Zoloft or any prescription to start to work, and then it may not be the one for you. The best bet is to ask your doctor for honest input ... you may be surprised at the answer. What about counselling to learn how to cope with the intensity of the attacks? Drugs alone will not help. I really feel for you, cuz I bin there dun that. Staying clear of other stimulants will be your best bet, but we all learn our own ways. Even if it's not your thing, rather than alcohol and cigarettes using up your money, try working out with a trainer. It will be a move in a positive direction, use up energy, and may help tire you to get a good night's sleep. Hope you can make the right good choices soon.

Any medical doctor could prescribe Zoloft or other mood alterating psychotropic medication. BUT, having a psychiatrist prescribe them ensure that you also have any additional support like counseling.

Think! This is your health. Use the best and if you need a medication like Zoloft see the Psychiatrist.

A general doctor can prescribe it. There are no restrictions on what medications a general doctor can prescribe. You only need to see a specialist when your case is too complex for the general doctor to treat.

Most definitely. An MD can prescribe any medication he/she thinks will help - even experimental medications.

Different laws in different nations. In my place (India; Kerala) it is possible to get it without a prescription though illegal.
