blonde highlights, black hair?

Question

my hair is dyed black, naturally brown, and i finally decided to get blonde or light brown highlights. should i use bleach first, and then apply the blonde? or is there a way for the bleach to look blonde if it stays in long enough? i'm afraid the bleach will turn out looking orange. or, do i not need bleach?

Use the bleach first but I think you should highlight it a light to medium Brown!

I don't think it would look bad at all as long as you go to someone who knows what they're doing. And as long as you don't get too big of strands highlighted. I suggest that you don't do bleach because it will contrast too much, when highlights are supposed to blend in. Look for a lighter brown (almost blonde) color and against your black hair it will look lighter than it is. Whatever you do, DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. I did that once and ended up with blue hair...I'm talking SMURF blue. Be careful about choosing your stylist...and good luck.

I have too girlfriends one went from natural blonde to jet black looked awsome.. the other has black hair & added Deep purple highlight Just a few & very subtle but it looks awsome when the light hits it ... i would ask a color specialist befor youmess with bleach.. for one bleach make your hair strands poreus like swiss chesses which make it almost impossible to get color to stick when wanting to change from bleach to color. i had hair almost waist lengh & colored my self . i ended up not only with a orange tint but a color band of differnt colors around my hair after years of self coloring. It took a lot of hair cuts & an expensive color tech to fix the problem... advise is to go get a consultation from a salon.. 50 bucks maybe free in the long run u will save time & money & the heart ache of ruining your hair

bleach several times over 2 weeks if you really want to do it yourself..1 application will defently not turn it blonde straight away, and either will bleaching it and then putting blonde hair dye on it after, there both peroxide and exactly the same, ive done 50 hours in beauty school...black streaks over blonde hair will make the bits uderneath grey and will wash out ..it wont turn out clean fresh colour.

I have naturally blonde hair and I dyed mine black....then i decided to put blonde highlights in it,...NO GOOD!! If you dyed it black yourself then you probably stained your hair...then the bleach won't take,..you need salon color on it first to go lighter,...after I learned this the hard way,...(i.e. my hair breaking off really bad and me having to go brown for awhile) DON' T DO IT YOURSELF!! Trust me,...It just dosen't turn out right when you do it.

I recently tried the same thing last week. I died my hair jet black firts, then just get the regular blond hair die, it comes with a booster kit it will work with that. Don't use bleach in your hair alone it will damage it.

for me it depends in the girl. Like I might see a girl with black hair as well as think she is totally hot yet see a girl with blond tresses that is meh and vice versa.
