I'm interested to know the contents of the package and which course is your favourite. (My country has its own version of the MRE, also vacuum-packed, but it's rather ugh because the meat and sauce is mixed with the carbohydrate source, ie the rice, pasta or noodles. The rice tends to crystallize too.)

Cheese and sausage? Sounds like Germany to me.

MRE's taste like cafeteria food in High school. Not bad, but not good for everyday. My favorite, if you could call it that, is the BBQ meat. And the desserts always seem good.

Yes they add carbs to make sure our soldiers have enough energy and can get full off of just one. Some are good but others are pretty blah. salt and pepper helps. I think my favorite was the rice with meat sauce. If you have the microwave option, that helps. All in all, no complaining. You'd be surprised what kind of foods you have the option of eating with MRE's.
I had a friend overseas who said they used to trade some of theirs for other countries troops for variety. His favorite trade was, I forget which country, who had cheese and sausage and even alcohol.

My husband says that MRE's really aren't that bad. He was in the Army in the 80's. And he says they're a heck of a lot better than C-rations!

His favorite MRE was the beef stew.

I've only had the civilian version. But it wasn't bad. I could see how soldiers would get tired of them rather quickly though. They are filling.

Not that bad. I always preferred the stews. The eggs just look so gross. Thankfully we had salt and pepper.

Pretty good actually..
Better when outdoors in a camping type setting but good enough for TV dinners...

We ate them in the military. They taste good because they make you starve in the field, and when your hungry, anything is good. So they are good.
