Iniatially, there are few changes, as the drugs begin control, a change in personality, a change in eating habits and finally a disdain for personal care. These are reflected by people avoiding you, or unreasoned hostility and a paranoid and suspicious attitude. Depending on the type of drug involved, eating habits can be from constant hunger to almost a complete lack of appetite...i.e. people on opium are usually skeletal. As the addiction progresses, people lose interest in hygiene or clothing and appear dirty. There are other symptoms such as tremors, itchiness, photophobia, mood changes, dilated eyes (or contacted pupils...depending on drugs), sniffles, erosion of nasal bones (cocaine), and many are out of the three spheres of orientation. Those are a few key points but there are more.

The only way you can tell if someone is abusing drugs is look at there facial expression such as red eyes, dark color on lips and if they can't look at you straight in the face.
