We have a D50 in the arsenal, but never installed any software. If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.

First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.

If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.

Either connect the cable to a USB port on your computer and use the software that came with your D50, or pull out the SD card and use an external card reader- those cost about $10 from BestBuy, Ritz Camera, etc.

Most come with a program disc, read your manual first before hooking up the camera.

I didn't do this and it wouldn't recognize my camera.

If it's too late, plug in your camera to the pc. Go to control panel, open system folder
Click on device manager.
This will list all things on your pc. If you find a conflict - it will show a yellow ? mark
Click it and update the driver for the port - I did mine via internet search - let the internet find the best driver - you should be prompt to windows.
It wil update and this should fix the port.
After that the camera wizard will find your camera and tell you step instructions to open the folder.

Worked for me - now I don't even use the program - I just connect the camera, and it automatically opens the folders required

Take the SD card out of the camera and plug it into a card reader, which is then plugged into your computer. Use Windows Explorer to first create a folder and then simply highlight and move everything into that folder. Card readers are available everywhere - Bestbuys, Office Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

Hint - name the folder using either the date you took the photos or if it was a trip or vacation, use that name. Example: disneyworld 2006, etc.

You can also create multiple folders and move the appropriate photos into them.

I have tried this many ways, with the included software and without. By FAR the easiest way to upload pictures to get a cheap (we are talking $25 anywhere) digital media reader, and just leave it plugged in to your usb port. I leave the thing sitting on my desk and pop out my SD card from the camera, stick it in the reader, and do a drag and drop right in Windows Explorer. You don't have to mess with any software loading, etc., really is the easiest way.

Are they JPG or NEF files? If NEF, it's Nikon's RAW format and Windows may not natively recognize them. Just navigate to the drive in Explorer, copy them off to your computer. You can get a RAW viewer from Microsoft on their site. Picasa also handles most raw formats.

there's two possible methods ... first, ur camera should have an usb cord that attaches from camera to computer, this should enable camera to download photos straight to ur computer. the other method only works if ur camera has removable media (memory card); if it does, and if ur computer has a media card reader, then just plug in the card and viola! but back to method number one ... before you connect your camera to your computer, check to see if your camera came with a cd that has a program for your computer to 'talk' with your camera. once this program is installed, then you can connect your camera to your computer. not doing this first may damage both your camera and your computer ... a very costly mistake. better to be safe than sorry. good luck. if you're still unsure, then just email me and i'll explain step-by-step.

If it's a digital camera you can connect your camera using picture bridge setting and cables from camera to usb port on pc computer. Or you can remove the memory chip and if you have a printer or other device that accepts digital picture chips than you can choose to inset your chip into one of these options and make sure printer or transfer device is connected to computer through usb cable, Once you slide chip into correct fitting slot for your cameras chip size it will start to download. If it doesn't than go to Start menu and click run or all programs and choose program or device your downloading from. It should start to bring up pictures or instructions to screen.

It might be something wrong with the computer if that's what is saying it can't read the card. I just use a card reader, I don't bother with the usb to the camera. I find it works much better.
