If one is an undocumented alien and not just a foreign tourist, his or her foreign driving license is invalid in the USA. So it's not just a "simple traffic ticket".

When I am in a foreign country I'm careful not to do stupid things, like ignoring laws. As long as the Houston police don't arrogate to themselves the right to decide matters of immigration law they are within their policy rights.

I was riding with someone in Oregon who was stopped for speeding and was asked for MY passport. I thought that rather presumptuous but didn't care to argue. Fact is though that the cop couldn't have told a fake one from a real, or a proper I-94 from a fake, or much else to do with immigration law.

What's more, there's no law in the USA that says you have to carry proof of your immigration status with you. The most you have to have is driving license and registration or car rental papers. If you're driving.

The danger with the Houston policy (not law, they don't have power to enact such a law at a city level) is that it will be applied mostly against nonwhites. And many African-Americans have no proof of identity, no driving license, no passport. Hey, that's the whole point of the new "positive-ID" voting laws: to keep such blacks from voting. Or so say judges who've ruled on them.

Yes, If you catch by US polish in illegal immigrant, then police can take you in custody for initial determination regarding your immigration status. And also police arrested you if you have done any fraud or crime. So for this condition you can need a good Immigration Judge for Immigration Court. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has allowed you to one free call to any person which can assist you (person as a family member, friend or a lawyer).

i think this is a good law. It should of been in place many years ago. If they are illegal, Hello!!!!! They need to be gone, even if they did not commit a crime or simple traffic ticket.

if you are here illegally, you gots to go!!!! i am from Dallas and Parkland hospital has the busiest delivery room in the country from all the illegal aliens who come here and make anchor babies (babies born here so they are automatic citizens) and have them delivered at a county hospital on MY tax dollars. My health insurance is ridiculously high because of these people.

Then they enroll their kids in school next to my kids and slow the whole class down cuz they don't speak English- unless you are here under the proper documents- you gots to get out!!!!

Regular citizens should have the athourity to call the feds on them, there should be a checkpoint set up at the local Wal Marts and check cashing stores

Well let's see, an illegal act being reported to the appropriate authority.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable to me.

I don't know where you stand on this but if you think it is a bad thing I wish you would rethink your position. We have laws for reasons and that includes immigration.

Seems fair if it's a violent crime.

Otherwise, you get into the issue of whether one person really has the right to be here over another, particularly when "illegal aliens" are vital to the economy, pay a HIGHER percentage of US taxes, and have been shown to primarily work jobs nobody else wants for wages nobody else wants.

Yeah, I am so happy. before officer Johnson was killed the police wanted nothing to do with asking for documentation. After officer Johnson was murdered they were calling for the right to ask.

Too bad it took one of their own for them to realize its a good thing to get illegals out.

its cool as long as its a violent crime for a traffic stop it'll be stupid unless you find drugs or guns.... let kick the people that don't do anything for this country and keep the ones that can contribute positivity in the USA...

I think it's good. Illegals don't contribute to the tax base and take public healthcare dollars.
