Is diet coke bad to drink if you're trying to lose weight, I've heard it doesn't do anything, but I've also heard it's bad.

I am a diet coke and pepsi drinker. I have lost about 50 lbs over the last 4 months and I drink diet soda like a health freak drinks water. It does contain the sugar substitute, which many health care folk says is bad for you. They say its worse then sugar BUT I dont see how it can be considering most weight gain is due to over consumption of sugar in one way or another coupled with in activity. What a lot of people dont understand when you eat breads, pasta, potatoes, all this breaks down in your digestive system and turns to glucose which in a simple sugar. milk even breaks down into sugar. I think if your a pop drinker at all diet is better then non diet. I'm not a health care provider yet Im just giving advice from a personal stand point

Diet Coke, just like any diet soda, has phosphoric acid as an ingredient. Phosphoric acid leaches calcium from your bones.

Sugar sweetened sodas also have phosphoric acid, but since they have 120+ calories per 12 ounce can, avoid them on your diet.

Any caffeinated beverage will also leach calcium from your system, including coffee and tea, so limit your intake of those beverages too.

You won't go wrong if you stick with plain water. If you don't like the taste of your tap water, get a Britta filter or a pitcher with a filtration system. You should drink at least 2-3 liters of water every day to flush and rid your body of the toxins and stay healthy.

Diet Coke is good to drink while dieting. It has aspartame in it which is artificial sweetner.

Q: Can aspartame help people lose weight?

A: Yes. Studies have shown that foods and beverages sweetened with aspartame can be an effective “tool” as part of a weight management program. Aspartame, however, is not a drug and does not stimulate weight loss. It does help make possible good tasting low- or reduced-calorie foods and beverages for those who wish to control or decrease their caloric intake. Researchers at Harvard Medical School have concluded that aspartame “is a valuable adjunct to a comprehensive program of balanced diet, exercise and behavior modifications for losing weight.”

There is apparently something in diet drinks that make you hungrier. Also, a lot of them are high in sodium, which makes you retain fluid.
