The handle on the jack pushes small amounts of the fluid into the base of the cylinder, the fluid can handle extreme pressure and there fore moves the cylinder outward.

a hydraulic jack works the same way that earthmoving equipment(bulldozers, end loaders, etc.)work and the same basic way that lowrider automobiles raise and lower(bounce). hydraulic fluid(oil) is pumped ,either by hand as in a jack or through a hydraulic pump that is powered, this fluid pushes into a cylinder(tube) that has another cylinder (tube) inside it ,as the fluid fills this area the inner cylinder is forced outward....raising the car or lifting the bucket or bouncing the impala(car)

Move the handle up and down and the jack goes up. Twist the handle to the right and the jack goes down.
