The Green Monkey does not currently hold any entries. According to last week's Racing Post, he is expected to make his debut sometime next month.

He was scratched from a maiden race at Saratoga in August after pulling a muscle.

He worked at Belmont Park last Tuesday and pleased his trainer Todd Pletcher, who said they were just stretching his legs.

In my opinion he has a lot to do to live up to his hefty price tag - $16million will never be made back on the racetrack so he'll have to earn it in the breeding shed.

Interestingly he is by the same sire as DISCREET CAT (Forestry), so that could bode well for him.

I highly recommend that you read the Indian Charlie newsletter, they're not fans of the Green Monkey and it makes for amusing reading! A new edition is posted during major race and sales meetings, here's the website - I love it! - http://www.indiancharlie.com/

library, google it.. etc etc... OR you can go to a horse stable, ask if you can watch for free, ask questions while your there and observe and best of all see real horses and get them answered from known people so it would all be true for a fact!!!! you could also set up a day wher you could visit a veterinarian and ask question while watching them with the horses.. and it would be free! :) (my vets around here usually do that) p.s. quarter horses are the best first horese breed, along with saddlebred and a few others.... I dont reccomend an arabian as a first time horse unless you REALLY know what your doing and have some one to help you.. those horses are VERY high spirited usually.)

The horse is trained by Todd Pletcher and he was purchased as a 2yo, not as a yearling.

He was laid up with a minor injury over the summer, but is now back in training. He breezed 3F in 39.93 seconds at Belmont Park last week. Pletcher was quoted as saying that he could make his first start next month if all goes well.

Hello Shergar,
His last workout was SO SLOW, that I personally doubt if he will ever race. They will not want to expose him without certainty of a good / winning performance. His workouts before the Saratoga race were not up to snuff, so they scratched him there. Pletcher said the horse was sick. I wonder if it wasn't Tabor who was ill after those workouts.

While the horse was well trained for his sales breezes, when he was moved to the racetrack they discovered he had a serious starting gate phobia. Pletcher brought in a special gate crew to work with him. He's tried to work twice from the gate, once he broke and ran well but too slowly to qualify for a work. The second time he broke and pulled himself up in less than a furlong. The party line is that he'll start sometime in November, until then I guess we'll wait and see.

I seem to recall hearing that The Green Monkey was part of a string of horses that Pletcher was going to ship out to Southern California, to train and race over Hollywood Park's new synthetic racing surface.

Who cares about the price tag?? Look at what the Aussies bring over and win with at Royal Ascot!!

A 9.7 Million dollar purchase ran at Newmarket yesterday, got stuffed.

Let Tabor and the Arabs pay this stupid money, they'll never win it back will they???!

It is the New Market Salsa. This little guy is sure a quicky but got scratched because of his age. He was way too young to race. But then the owner challenged the winner after the race for a dual and Salsa totaly smoked him.
