I think your first thing you need to do is figure out why you have a sore back in the first place, is it just muscular tension? The way you have been sleeping? Or have you had an injury or fall.

There are numberous ways you can help the ease the pain. If you can, try and book yourself in for a deep tissue massage to get rid of the tension in your muscles or a chiropractor can help too.

If this is not possible there are other steps you can take. The most important thing you can do for your back is to stay active! Do not lie down, sit around until the pain goes away, this will only make it worse in the long term.

Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins out of your body and hydrate your muscles.

Pharmacies also have heat pads for your back that work pretty well too. You wear them for afew hours and they will also release the tension.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I can tell you from experience that heat is NOT the way to go! It may feel better at the time but it isn't helping at all!!! My husband has been suffering with a bad back for years! So I've have picked up a few things. The therapist recommend ice. It takes the swelling down and helps sooth the inflamed area. Also try to slowly stretch your back. Be careful not to make things worse. Good luck and hope I have helped you and you get the answers your looking for.

It would have helped if you give a bit more info of your symptoms. if they persist more than two weeks you must see a doctor. I had pain for 6 years and for 5 and a half i was told it was mechanical and would have to put up with it. I went to doc again and again eventually i was diagnosed with disc prolapse it was shear bloody agony. I just had my operation a few days ago and after all these years my pain has gone. For now try ibuprofen or heat rub. But please if it persists go to the doctor and keep going till its gone don,t wait as long as me they waited til i was almost a cripple and could only walk 10 minutes a day before my MRI scan. Good Luck and Good health.xxx

A nice warm bath if you can get in and out easily. If not a hot or cold compress on your back, frozen peas in a tea towel, hot water bottle etc. whichever is more comfy but remember afterwards not to do too much as your back will be numbed for a bit with the heat/cold and you can hurt it more if not careful.

If it persists see your doctor as the back is an iffy thing at the best of times!

Hot bath or hot water bottle applied to the sore area.

Oooh - have you tried those heat patches that have just been released? I tried one for my neck and shoulder when I pulled a muscle but they have just released one for the back. Its heaven!! Warms up on your body and stays hot for 4 hours. Sticks to you too so you can get on with your everyday life
