It's usually longer than the active duty guys get deployed for. My husband is active duty, on average active duty deployments are for a year. I've heard of some national guard units going for 18 months to 2 years. And sometimes they get very little time at home before they are deployed again.

usually 18 months unless they get injured or if there is a lot of heavy action going on they will stay much longer i am a marine recon we was suppose to do a 6 month tour but it got extended to 24 months because a lot of fighting

most of the time the tour is one year it can go for 18 months i was in iraq as both navy and i went back as a civilian

They are activated for a period of two years, one year is boots on ground in the combat zone they are sent to.

No one seems to know - their deployment gets extended according to "conditions on the ground." They get sent back for more and more deployments -
I bet even Rumsfeld doesn't know.
