+ If you mean contact via letter, most do, but at the best weekly. If you mean E-mail never, if you mean phone, then it would be very rare and the military member would be putting himself at risk to do this.
If there were a family emergency. Death or imminent death of a mother, father, sister, brother, child or wife, then contact the Red Cross and they will help assist you.
I wrote weekly and received mail about the same starting on the 3rd week. The important thing was to get my correct mailing address out to those I wanted to hear from.

Your question is confusing. I formally commanded a reception company in the Army. Soldiers get an opportunity to make a phone call within the first 72 hours of their arrival to Basic Training. From then on out, phone privleges are sporadic, but usually are offered once a week on Sundays, and often times, more frequently.

In the military? In basic you can write letters on your free time and use the phone once in awhile.once your done with basic and your at your duty stationyou can write and call family members on your down/off duty time

When I was in, I called home weekly and wrote daily.
My DH went thru BCT in 2002 and I got 3 calls from him and about a dozen letters the whole time there.

often...My DI's made us write letters every Sunday at the minimum......wow did i just date myself...suppose they use email now...
