Why is it, that if you do not believe in the war, most people think you do not support our troops? I want every single one of our soldiers that have been sent over there to come home safely, I wish they never went in the first place. The war, in my opinion, was and is unnecessary. Can someone explain why me hating the war means I hate our young men and women of the military?

Because many people think in black and white. They think if you don't agree with the government, you're not a patriot, you need to get out. Also many people place a lot of stock in America appearing as a united front when in reality everyone is questioning the president (what an embarassment home AND abroad!) Most of the population is in the gray area though, like you (and me). I don't agree with the war but I won't show disrespect to others who are fulfilling their obligation and/or doing what's right in their eyes. Many people join the military for college money, job training, and because they have a sense of duty, all reasons which I greatly respect. I feel that a great number of them are misguided, feel that they are "defending our freedom" which is kind of a glorified reason. Come on, no one has a chance at taking over the US, our freedom has not been compromised. But they are defending our safety and I am thankful for that. We're in over our heads and we need to get our people home. Patriotism is wanting what's best for your country, not saying screw it and packing up and heading for Canada.

Because to the troops when you say you don't support the war it says you don't support what they are called to do, thus not supporting the men and women fighting in it. Just like in Vietnam, our troops didn't asked to go to war, they were just sent and did as they were ordered to do.
I know this from personal experience, my husband served in Iraq.
Unfortunately, most people do not differentiate, like you did, that they support the troops. They only publically say that they don't support the war.

maybe if more people would hold "support the troops" rallies in stead of "protest the war" rallies then the troops would get the right idea.

Also the media is very biased. They focus much more on the anti-war protests than the pro-troop supporters.

Thank you for supporting the men and women of our armed forces!!!

Mainly because most people are lumping it up into one "hate". If you don't support the war, what are you doing to support the troops? Have you donated blood? Have you sent anything to deployed service members? Have you contacted the Red Cross or the USO to see what you can do? Or do you just sit at home and watch the news?

Support of the troops, to some people, means support of the war. By assisting the variety of organizations that support the troops downrange, you support the troops. Showing up for anti-war protests does not support the troops. They see the news, and they see the people, and that is demoralizing. Whether that's what you mean for them to think, that is what they will think. Support the troops by doing things that will NOT demoralized them. Support the troops with things like I mentioned above. Leave politics out of it and think of the people.

Thanks for thinking of us, and allowing me to answer this question.

actual no longer. i'm a Gulf warfare Vet, yet i'm against the warfare in Iraq, continually have been. It develop into irresponsible and unjust. helping the troops isn't in ordinary terms cheering for them and waving the flag, it is likewise retaining their lives as effectual to the quantity that they do no longer look to be put in harms way flippantly. The warfare waged against those terrorist as a results of fact the present administration has provided this is been a lie. AL-Qaeda develop into no longer in Iraq, despite in the event that they're now. Which recent a diverse difficulty. Alhtough the justification for going into Iraq develop right into a lie, we are there, and now AL-Qaeda is. for my section i do no longer think of any of the applicants have provided a doable answer to the situation. we can't stay indefinitely, there must be a objective, purpose or timetable or there is no longer something to benchmark your self against and set targets. At artwork, all of us has on a daily basis, weekly , month-to-month targets, its the only way issues get carried out comparable element. we can't despite if only bail. that ought to in ordinary terms depart a festering and boiling warm spot breading floor for terrorists, that we depart to our childrens. Bush sent in 0.5 the troops counseled by way of specialists and generals and then did no longer arm and look after them with armor while he sent them into conflict. So i think of opposing the warfare doesn no longer advise you appose the troops, blindly following somebody who has shown a loss of apptitude and capacity to steer responsibly and effectively isn't helping the troops, it somewhat is doing them a great diservice.

Yes we value every single life irrespective of whether we know them personally or not, whether they belong to us or not, a life is a life and has every right to live until God calls us back, so man initiated wars take away God given life and makes life for the living others miserable............... so its high time we say a big NO to war................. don't we recall the mass destruction caused by the previous world wars???............. how much of misery and suffering, irrespective of which country the people belong to................. if the next world war is triggered, then there is no telling the far reaching nuclear effects it will have..........please GOD give us the heart and tolerance and patience to stop any war in future............. we want every single soldier back home safely............. we want a world of peace to live in..........

Your "dialogue" with YOURSELF is
questionable.,..

You are correct about the first 85% of your
question ,

BUT "hating" the Military dont make sense
the "Military" being an Instrument/Arm of
the Govt/Politicians ...

As a non-US citizen , not even living on the
Continent, let me ASSURE you , there is
NO GREATER GOODWILL/ADMIRATION
for ANY fighting force, than the US FORCES !

It's the POLITICIANS OF THE DAY
that phuck it up !

Thanks Marines & All for 1944 !!

I agree with you. we should not be in the middle east, but that is not the fault of the american men and women who are dying there. they are doing their duty as determined by their leadership. it is not their place to determine whether or not it is correct. (of course, you could say the same thing about many german soldiers under the nazis.) I AM NOT COMPARING OUR SERVICE PEOPLE TO THE NAZIS. Just our leadership!!!
