and the error code was P1191. I looked that up, and it said that the problem is Intake Air Duct Leak. I want to know what that means, how it is caused, and how do I fix it.. without having to take it to the Dodge dealership. I just got the oil changed at Walmart, and the spilled oil all over the manifold, and the top of the part that you actually put the oil in. I got to the red light, and my truck was smoking (burning off the oil) I took it back, and they sprayed degreeser on the hot engine. Could that have started the problem? I am so confused! Then after my husband an I were riding down the road and the check engine light came on. So, we had to take the truck back ... yet again.. this time the man put the diagnostic machine on it.. and it came up with that error message. (P1191) He erased the computer somehow, and the light went off, but that problem was not fixed. What should I do?

first of all,P1191 is not a fault code for dodge.we do not have a fault for air intake leaks.we use speed density and not a mass airflow system.spilling oil will not set a code unless oil or cleaner was able to get into a connector(electrical) causing a bad connection.if the fault was cleared, and you have driven the durango a few days and the light stays off,it is ok.aftermarket diagnostic code readers are generic and not brand specific, and sometime can misinterpret codes,or misread.as long as the light stays off,it is ok.good example of not taking you durango back to a dealer, you could of installed parts, and money for what?in the long run it would of saved money.good luck

If the light went off and didn't come back then the problem is fixed, an oil change can't do no damage to the engine unless they forget the oil or add too much oil or they played around the engine checking and removing others components, if the light is not on anymore and you take it to the dealer you are wasting everyone's time, they will send you off on your way, there is nothing there to fix, give it a rest, your husband will be grateful

You have a leak in the intake duct. This is the tube or passage where outside air enters the engine. It might be a hole, a crack, or a gasket that has failed. A mechanic with the proper tools could find it easily enough, I suspect. You can try to find it yourself, of course. If you do, you might be able to fix it by replacing a part or covering the hole.

Try checking your air filter first. If the case or box isn't locked and closed properly it could trigger the intake sensor. Also the air filter could be the wrong size or not set in the right place.
If you have had your car serviced or had the oil changed they may have not put the air filter back correctly.

i agree it is an easy fix. you can either buy a new duct or, what i would do if it is not in plain view, is take either ether or wd 40 and mist it ove the duct in small increments working your way up the duct. this will get you in the area of the hole. when the mist finds and enters the hole or crack it will cause the engine to rev. then all you have to do is find it in the narrowed down area and patch.
