In reality, car dealers all pay the same price for the car so therefore they can sell the car for the same price. Taxes though are different in each state but never the less you would still have to pay your state taxes (for registration purposes). So my advice to you is to shop 2 or 3 dealers in your area and whoever is best buy it there. Travelling to another state costs money (gas and tolls) and woul;d not be worth the trip.

A state with no sales tax is cheaper, however you must be a resident of that state. Of course, you could play with that, such as have a resident buy it, then "buy" it from them for $1, but otherwise it is probably best to just ask several dealers in your state. Usually you can get quotes from three or four of them, and then take that around and ask for lower. I ended up getting quoted less than $16,000 (before taxes and extra fees) for a new honda civic in Georgia...of course then I realized how much cheaper it was to get a used honda civic. So I got a 2003 instead which will last nearly as long. If you do not need a NEW CAR (and you shouldn't with a honda), I strongly suggest looking at 2002-2005 models. They'll be several $1000 cheaper and are just as good. Most honda's will last over 150,000 miles if kept up correctly. Either way, good luck on your purchase. (Also, check with Edmunds, they can tell you an estimate of what to pay a dealer in your area).

Oregon is the best state, no sales tax, but you need to be a resident or you have to pay the tax in the state that you live.
