Well if your daughter is 19 than I think she is old enough to start dating. Why are you trying to shelter her. She is a woman now. All you can do is give her advice on making the right choices. Dont try to forbid her to see this person it will only make her mad and do things she may not even want to do (sex) Let her grow up. YOu can hold her back but do try to guide her.

Is she happy? Is he treating her with respect and care? These are the important questions. Don't drive your daughter away by saying she's too young to know what a relationship is. We all have to start some where. I wish I had been able to talk to my mum when I was19 but she carried on like it was the end of the world! Good luck. It can be hard to "let your little girl go" but if she can still come to you to talk then you haven't "lost" her.

Well, at 19 there isn't much a parent can do other than offer emotional support, invite the boyfriend to dinner/family gatherings. My daughter is only 10yrs. old but if she isn't dating by the time she is 19yrs. I will be more concerned about that!

Where I live, by law she's an adult. She can legally vote, marry, join the military and date. At age 19, she doesn't need my permission to date and I wouldn't make a federal case out of it unless the guy was bad news all the way around.
