I have various shapes and sizes of lampshades I need to recover. I can't seem to get the measurements or a good pattern cut to do it.

You lay it down on a very large piece of paper and roll/trace it at the same time..... which makes a pattern for you they do sell sticky stuff in the shape of lampshades at some crafty stores or sewing stores

To make the pattern for the lamp shade, tape several pieces of newspaper together, lay the lamp shade on the newspaper seam side on the bottom, roll the lampshade across the paper and trace as you roll the shade, use a magic marker so you can see the pattern on the newspaper, roll the shade until the seam is on the bottom again and there is your pattern, allow ample over lap for the top and bottom of the shade as well as enough to over lap the back seam on the shade. You will have to trace both the bottom of the shade as well as the top of the shade for a correct fit.
Good Luck

measure end to end and side to side, your cut out should look like a triangle without the point to it.

" Measure twice, cut once" I married the carpenter, and he married the seamstress. Great combination. We fit perfect together.
