Go into the control panel and open the Add and Remove Programs Icon. Click on "Add/Remove Windows Components". Check the "Faxing Services". This will install the Window Faxing software on your computer and give you an icon under Start > All Programs > Accessories .
Attach a phone line and start the program. It will run you through a wizard where you set it up to answer the phone and receive faxes.

Further to previous answers you need to make sure that your modem is suitable for handling faxes. All new modems are. Also the fax facility can be accessed through Word.

...And you need to make sure you have your windows cd in the drive, thats where it install it from :)
