My Neighbour just told me she is Pagan and is raising her girls to be strict pagan, when my husband found out he didn't like the idea of our girls going over to play without us there anymore. Does anyone know what all this religion is about and should I be worried about my kids going to her house?

Paganism isn't a single religion - it's a collection of various religions - some similar, some not.

Most likely, your neighbor believes in some variation of non-monotheism - polytheism, animism, etc. There's likely a reverence of nature in some form. The beliefs are, typically, derived from some of the ancient mythologies - Greek, Roman, Nordic, etc. All told, it's not easy to guess what your neighbor believes without knowing which specific Pagan religion she is.

In general, you probably don't need to worry, any more than you'd need to worry if your neighbors were Jews or Hindus - it's just another religion. Sure, there's an off chance that your neighbor's a nut - but that's dependant upon the person, not the religion. Overall, there's likely little risk for your girls to visit.

Paganism is a broad, eclectic contemporary religious movement that encompasses shamanistic, ecstatic, polytheistic, and magical religions. Most of the religions termed Pagan are characterized by nature-centered spirituality, honoring of pre-Christian deities, dynamic, personal belief systems, lack of institutionalization, a quest to develop the self, and acceptance and encouragement of diversity. Paganism is sometimes referred to as Neo-Paganism to emphasize its connections to as well as difference from pre-Christian religions.
There are no charismatic gurus in Paganism. Pagans do not seek to convert others. Each Pagan is independent and autonomous, even when working in groups. All value choosing one's own path and beliefs. There is no one spokesperson for Paganism.

You have nothing to worry about. You children are probably safer at that house than anywhere else in the neighborhood.

Paganism isn't really a religion, like being a Christian isn't a religion. It is a way of living, a solid belief structure based upon the earth and nature as a living being that we are able to interact with and use to enrich our lives. Pagans worship a Goddess and a God, for this maintains the Balance, which is very important to us.

Nothing to worry about Paganism is the worship of nature and the elements, its not like evil witch craft or anything, Wicca is alot more natural and all about nature and all good things, the Wiccan law is "as long as thou harm none do what thou wilt" Paganism doesn't allways abide by this law, actually the Pagan religion is very closely linked with cristianity. Wiccans are usually alot better behaved and more safe than Pagans, I am actually a Wiccan myself

Pagans worship everything about the earth. The earth is sacred, the sky, the water all things have a spiritual and sacred value. To a pagan, depleting the earths resources and polluting the land would be a terrible sin. They worship and take care of the earth and all things to do with it.

"Pagan" does not so much refer to religion or worship as it describes non-Christian, non-Jewish and non-Muslim religions. It especially describes the religion of the Ancient Mediterranean world but is also applied to a wide variety of world religions.

Pagan is having anything to do with "form" worship or idol worship. Christianity and Islam forbid idol worship. SO, that must be the reason. But in any case the christians worship the cross? Is it not Paggan? Just a question.
