Isn't it sad that many of sikh people are chopping off their hair just for their comfort or their self made reasons. I think they are forgetting the scarifices made by their Guru's for creating this Identity.Whatever reasons they have to believe for doing this, I think a true Sikh shall never cope up with those belives. What can be done to stop this?

People for whatever reason go through changes, mostly Sikhs that have cut their hair have done so because of living in the western society and being influenced by this. If you look at media, majority of media portrays personalities and characters that are none Sikhs. Younger generation Sikhs see these as their role models and follow them rather then the teachings of the Sikh guru's. Also there is a lack of understanding amongst the younger generation of Sikhs, due to a poor understanding and appreciation of their own language. Sikhs from older generations were more resolute in their beliefs and faith due to a better and more in depth understanding of their religion and culture. By being brought up in the western world young Sikhs want to fit into society and sometimes this means cutting their hair, they do not understand that a Sikh has a unique identity that needs to be maintained and each individual should develop his/her unique personality whilst maintaining the Identity given by the Guru's.

There are many religious traditions or symbols which are indifferently followed by the people. But, in this world, where every body wants to parade their narrow religions or sectarian identity, many easily adopt to that, in a situation, when their religious identity is threatened. The same person who is not sporting a beard, may some day do that , when he feels strongly that his religion is persecuted and he wants to parade his identity as a matter of defiance to others from whom, according to him, the threat is perceived. There are other sets of people, who are sporting the beard etc, and yet they will be atheists, like Harkishan Singh, the Communist leader. He wears the Sikhs mien, as a cultural outfit, as a matter of tradition, as other communists wear pyjama or dhoti depending on their culture.

Personally, these symbols do not really matter, as long as live your life according to the tents of the religion. The basis of all religion is love and sacrifice. The Sikh religion basically is a religion which is built in heroism and sacrifice.

You can get a large clip with interlocking fingers, put your hair in a low ponytail, twist it up, and clip it in that position. Then you fan the hair out at the top and it makes it like a fountain. You can put it half up. Put it half up and braid the hair in the mini ponytail. French braid it, or part it in the middle and make two french braids. You can put your hair in a French twist. You can put your hair up in a messy or neat bun. You can purchase large pretty clips and use them to either put your hair in a half ponytail or a full one. You could get the top of your hair corn rowed, and place glittery butterflies at the ends of the rows. Umm.. that's all I got for now. Like any of them?

every religion changing their tradition. Why not Sikhs an exception. Those days when a Brahman lady looses her husband she used to shave her hair. But many..I can say almost none follows that tradition. Similarly circumcision is compulsory to Christians...many don't follow it.

If you are on your own way, they will simply overlook you.
