Probably after a forest fire, it smelled so good all those animals cooking, they couldn't help but give them a nibble to if they tasted as good as they smelled!

Probably came about after a forest fire and so random caveman, for the sake of this answer lets call him Joe, went to go hunting and found that the forest had burnt down. Joe not being as clued up as he may have been, due to a certain lack of evolution, went walking in fore-mentioned forest and happened to come across a the body of a charred mammoth. thinking to himself "Fuckin' Ug ug yum" which loosing translated means "fuckin' Hell a free feed" then proceeded to eat the chard remains. Joe soon realised that the crusty outer layer was a wee bit minging and so with his handy walking cane (sorry forget to mention that he had this before - walking canes were all the rage back then or "ow ugs" - basing sticks as they were known) he dug the crusty layer off and discovered the delicious cooked meat underneath! So he ripped some off and took it back to his cave. After all his fellows had eaten some and liked he took them back to the mammoth to get some more. After a few weeks of eating out like this the cavemen began to realise that cooked meats last longer (bit slow of them i know but don't forget this was their first cooked take away meal). So they vowed to cook all their meat from then on. the only slight problem that their unevolved brains had forgotten is that although Joe had discovered cooked meat no one had discovered fire yet. But that, as they say, is an answer for another day!

The story I was taught as a kid was that a piece of meat accidentally fell into the fire of some cave man and after pulling it out of the fire thought it tasted a lot better that way.

interesting question though.. maybe iit was by accident.. Chips were created by accident, and cake was created by trial and error.. so many things are discovered on accident but then other things are created by trial and error, you know?? iit makes you think.. i could care less because the only meat i really eat iis chicken.. but iif they didn't find a way to cook dem bad boyz i think i would be survivin off peanut butter and nuts for my protein haha

my elementary school teacher told us that the cavemen used to eat raw meat and then there were fires going on and some animals were burned to death and the cavemen realized how good the burned flesh smelled and the rest if history.....
but that was 34 years ago.

i think it's purely in our nature to hunt other animals as food. it may have been that the earliest cavemen discovered eating a pig was tasty, and they taught their sons, and they taught their sons, etc. it could have been expanded from eating pigs, to bufffalos, etc.
