Tight or pointed shoes. The friction causes a callous to form on your toe and repeated friction encourages it to continue to produce more hard cells in order to protect your toe from the friction. In order to properly treat a corn....change your footwear to something more sensible and use the corn removers you find in the drugstore. It may take up to 6 months for your body to get the idea it can stop producing those hard callused cells so be patient.

People get corns on their feet when they wear shoes that are too tight. Your toes rub up against the top of the shoe and the skin begins to chaffe. If you contine to wear tight shoes, the chaffing will turn into corns.

Most likely from shoes not fitting properly, or from being on your feet too long, especially when you're not used to it.
