I am taking classes at a college in West Michigan. The temperature here has been between 30-40, with blowing snowshowers that have left some accumuliation. While on campus yesterday, I could not believe the number of girls who wore flop sandals to class without any socks. I mean the first lesson you learn as a kid is to do everything you can to keep your feet warm and dry during the cold and flu season to avoid getting sick. If you are one of those girls who wears flipflops when the tempature gets near the freezing mark, while the ground is cold, wet, and sloppy, could you please explain to me why you would do this?

I am not one of those girls...however I will address your question.
I am a nurse and the whole thingy about being cold and wet getting you sick is a just not true. You get a cold or flu from a virus entering your body, you get pneumonia from a virus or bacteria entering your body. Cold and wet has nothing to do with getting either one...it has to do with comfort. Although, I may go along with too much discomfort lowering the ability of your immune system to fight off minor brushes with viruses and bacteria. personally I wear proper clothing for the weather only because I like being comfortable.

I used to be a bus driver in the midwest. and I saw this all the time. I guess for some it is fast and easy to throw those on when you are running late. I personaaly would not want to wear those in the winter because I have a arch problen and I need the support of a good shoe. I asked a girl once why she wore flip flops in the winter and all she would say is that her feet get real hot and this makes her feel better. I don't always understand but to each his own

It has been shown that being cold has nothing to do with getting colds or flu. The spread of these illnesses increases in winter because we tend to close all the windows and hundle together keeping the bugs warm - which they like.

Socks with flip-flops would be soooo uncool. What are you thinking ?

I live in southwest Michigan and I have to say that I have not been wearing flip flops or sandals of any kind. However, there is no correlation in pneumonia or getting sick and being cold. It all comes down to microbes and viruses.

Being in college, its easy and fast to throw on sandels, and its comfy!! thats probably why. Also even though their out of middle school and high school, that "im cool" factor remains with some people, and they would rather be cool, fellc omfy, and make things easier then worry about their health!!

First of all, guys do this too! Secondly, many of us "hot" blooded girls find that this is an easy way to regulate our body temperature. Besides, we hate wearing shoes!

Getting a cold from being cold is a myth. Colds come from VIRUSES.

cold is not good, but pneumonia is basically a virus / parasite
olive leaf extract can kill lots of viruses & parasites, it can be great protection
rosehip tea is good for breathing / coughing problems

I guess they just want to believe that they are not there, but in a warm, dry and sunny place.
