I live in Europe, where we don´t celebrate Thanks Giving, so I wonder when you celebrate it. I got so inspired of all the nice food (of which I read and have seen on TV) so I was thinking about getting recepies, make the food and invite my family, just for the fun of it.

Canadians celebrated it last Monday -- second Monday in October. Americans celebrate it fourth Thursday in November. I suspect the difference is that Canada, being further north, does harvest earlier than the US. It is a thanks for the harvest celebration.

The standard Thanksgiving (one word, not two) dinner for Americans is Turkey "with all the trimmings," which includes stuffing in the turkey (millions of recipes), generally sweet potatoes, fresh vegetables like corn, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin and/or mincemeat pies. Also standard in modern America, is the football game on TV. College football (not soccer, but what we call football) traditionally puts the end of their season and the Big Game (i.e., arch-rivals) on Thanksgiving. When I was in school at the University of Michigan, we trounced Ohio State every Thanksgiving. Very satisfying.

Do enjoy it. I think we all need to show our gratitude to "whatever gods may be" for our harvest, lest we end up with nothing. To me, it is pretty direct, because my principal deity is generally called Mother Nature. Or, as they put it in colonial times, Nature and Nature's God: i.e., Mother and Father of us all.
