The Old Testament was all the writings that the Jews had, collected over 1500 years, right up to the time of Jesus. Jesus himself actually knew and read from the scrolls. Even mentioning Noah. Matthew 243; 37,38
The New Testament, the written records of Jesus' short life by his apostles, could not have been started until Jesus began his preaching work at age 30, and finished with the last of Revelation, written by the Apostle John about 96 C.E., 33 years after Jesus died. It is not known how old John was, but it can be surmised that he was about the same age as Jesus. thereby making him near 100 when he wrote Revelation. The last books of the O.T. were written bu the minor prophets, Nehemiah and Malachi about 443 B.C.E. Jesus NEVER denied any of the O/T.

Malachi's writing was complete in about 435 BC. Since he's the last recorded OT prophet, I think that's as accurate a figure as you can get.

Peace.

Its confusing to me because the OT talks about events that happened before it was written. You could say about 420 years which is the time of the last Jewish prophet Malachi to the birth of Christ. Also debatable when it was actually written, since it was obviously some time after his birth.

Here are some sights with timelines.
