I would LOVE to be able to prohibit selling of arms in the US but the NRA (National Rifle Association) lobby is much too powerful. I don't think we should have guns for hunting or anything else. If no one has one then you don't have to defend yourself against one. I do agree it is safer in Europe.

For Americans safety is not the real issue. Some belive (Without a lot of justification) that gun ownership deters crime.
In reality lower crime statistics in Europe probably have a lot more to do with you greatly superior social safety net. But crime isn't the real issue.
The core truth is that our connstitution's bill of rights says:
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
There are not a lot of things that every American would call "Sacred." We're the most diverse civilization on the planet. But if theres anything we agree upon as a society, anything at all, its in our bill of rights. We can't agree on much but I think that just about everybody agrees on that.
Its our culture.
And if that seems strange think on this. France now has a law outlawing dennying the Armenian genocide happened. Turkey has a law outlawing saying that it did happen. The idea of jailing someone purely on the basis of what they believe is so stunningly alien to Americans most of us can't concieve how anyone could tolerate a government with those laws.
Its your culture.

Nope. Bearing arms ensures check and balance. Americans have the right to choose how our government is run. If for some reason the armed forces, etc went berserk and turned on the citizens of this country, we could fight back. It's about protection from the government and other people. I know it sounds idiotic to some people, but as a Southerner, I know my geographical area will always be a democratic society because we can defend ourselves from all enemies both internal and external.

Safer in Europe??? Have you lived there for any length of time?I live in France and people have no regard for each other here,No respect for law enforcement at all and they carry guns but are not allowed to use them unless being shot at,other then that it's for looks only! So if they are being attacked with a bat or knife they can not use their gun! Safe here....hell no! Guns in the right hands make it safer, it makes it put a question in a persons head before they act in an aggressive way if the person they are going to attack has a gun or not.Just my point of view being that I live in a France and yet come from the US.

I love my gun and here is why:
2 years ago I got mugged by a drug gang. I called the police and they actually caught them. I recovered all my stuff.
I said I would aid the prosecution and help them by testifying against the criminals. Next thing I know I started getting death threats ( in mailbox, and phone ) that I should not testify.
One night, a guy broke my back window and climbed through in an attempt to kill me. Guess what? I was 2 steps ahead of him and he met a 4 HOLLOW POINT bullets.. He survived, but believe me, that turned the whole situation with this gang around for me.. BIG TIME!

"If guns were outlawed, then only outlaws would have them." It is the law abiding citizen that always gets the punishment for the criminals behavior. September 11 is the perfect example, some crazy idiots kill thousands of Americans and now we have to wait longer at the airports. If people did not kill people with guns then the conversation would be about knives, or forks, or spoons or whatever people are using as weapons at the time.

Check your crime statics, and number of arms manufacturers and there location, increases or decreases in violent crime after gun bans and so forth and so on. Do you really believe that all arms are made in the good old USA? If so, go back to school and study. In the meantime, I will live here and maintain my rights as a citizen and keep my guns.

the reson the government dont make firearms sales illegal is:first off to much money for governments to give up . to many jobs lost such as police, lawyers, court workers, government agents. This would happen because crime would drop especially crimes with violence as a lot of criminals would think twice if they could get hurt by their victims. Make police walk beats but without firearms like some othercountries. the weapons are at the station if needed.Police would then have to learn to get along with people and not encourage violence. People get defencive when threatened whether by other people or police.

Washington, D.C. has the most restrictive gun laws in the entire U.S., and the highest number of police per citizen.
They also have a higher per-capita rate of all crimes (with or without guns, including murder or overall) than Dodge City, Kansas did before they had any form of government, laws, or law enforcement.
The fact is that the "Wild West" was tame compared to places in the U.S. today that actually have restrictions on firearms ownership.

Who says arms sales are forbidden in Europe.
You can still buy a gun in almost all European countries, and in some limited circumstances carry it on the street.
YES it is harder to do this than in the states but to say it's forbidden shows a complete lack of knowledge in European law.

No, it's no safer in Europe where arms are forbidden because no matter how illegal guns are, there are still Black Market guns like AK-47s available. Have you ever heard of the Black Market? That's how people buy guns that they can't buy legally.
Have you ever heard of the truism "When Guns are Outlawed Only Outlaws Will Have Guns"? It's self-explanatory.
