More than 50 Illegal Immigrants Found in Home
More than fifty immigrants were taken into custody Wednesday after a raid at a west side home. Police were called to the home on Senisa Street after they received a tip about stolen cars. When they arrived, they saw four people running from the house. They looked inside the "stash house" and found 51 illegal immigrants - 38 men, 12 women and a teenage girl – all crammed into three bedrooms.

“This is a case where we obviously just can't walk away,” Sgt. Gabe Trevino with San Antonio Police said. “We called the federal government to come out here and do their job.”

Trevino said two men escaped while police confirmed that two cars in the back of the house were stolen. All of the illegal immigrants were taken in for questioning by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

“We have a diverse group,” Fred Hollenbeck with ICE said. “Some from other than Mexico, but the majority are from Mexico.”

Hollenbeck said most of the migrants had been held in the house from two to eight days. Many were hungry and thirsty and hadn't bathed in days. None of them requested medical attention and none showed signs of physical abuse.

ICE officials said the immigrants might be part of a larger operation.

“It appears it a stash house, and people were just being staged here to move elsewhere,” Hollenbeck said.

The immigrants appeared to be in good health, authorities said.

"It's highly unusual for us to get a stash house this large in the San Antonio area," said Nina Pruneda, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The city is typically a pit stop for immigrants going elsewhere, she said.

The illegal immigrants face civil charges of being in the country illegally and deportation. One unidentified man in custody could be charged with smuggling.

ICE agents were working to find the homeowner Wednesday. Bexar County documents list the owner of the house as Alejandra Cortes of Los Angeles. She couldn't be reached for comment on Wednesday.

Neighbors said they were shocked by the number of people inside the house.

"It hasn't hit me yet, but my wife is taking it really hard," said William Ruiz, a next-door neighbor. "It's hard to imagine humans being treated that way, kept

You have a great way of describing your view point. I remember about your question on the Oregon drug gangs! Your right they should be deported, and you should consider journalism!

.....huh, what? Oh, sorry, guess I must've dozed off somewhere while reading your "question." What was it? Should all of them be deported? Probably, but the US Government won't and can't because it's focused on the War in Iraq and that's where the money's going. Has the Bush Administration done anything to improve it's own country that it's citizens pay for? I do not expect or depend on our government to do anything for me, I'm just another white man who was born here and have worked for 32 years straight in construction, pay taxes, own my home, don't commit crime, and support my wife who is permanently disabled & doesn't get benefits from SSI and have my home computer to entertain and gain information from. I don't feel illegal immigration is right nor fair but I've learned not to expect or ask for anything from the State or Federal government even though I've paid my way. I don't have a lot, but I know that no illegal immigrant has anything more than I do and personally I wonder why anyone would want to come here illegally when US citizens can barely obtain what they have worked and deserve. Now that I've timed out and have to get back to work, I'll close with that.

Yes, they should be deported. Probably won't be, though. Also, whomever is responsible for that property, be it the owner of the property or someone that might have been renting it, that person needs to be punished. (fines, prison or deportation if necessary)

Not only was the home a "stash house" for the illegal immigrants en route to wherever, but there were stolen vehicles on the premises. (from the info you provided, it seems this is the reason this house was being raided to begin with)

This type of illegal activity (stolen vehicles) is perhaps just a small fraction of other activities some of these people might have been involved in.

ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL and should be treated as such

Illegal Is illegal. However, why did they risk coming to the US in the first place? For the chance of a better life..and frankly we need the labor force that these people provide.
Most Americans won't do the jobs they take...at least Americans wouldn't do them for cheap money...

So no don't send them back...register them put them on probation...and have them tracked. If they fail to show up once then send them back.....
Requirements should be English language courses attended w/successful completion, citizenship classes, and a full time job or two, what ever it takes for them to feel like they are making up for coming here illegally....

The individuals responsible for smuggling the illegals in should face deportation or hard labor incarceration for an extended period.... as well as all assets confiscated and used to fund....what ever the GOV. thinks best.....
Either that or summary execution.

We all have to know that every thing that is illegal is against the law and legal action have to be taken, even a traffic ticket, that the law and we have to obey by it. The problem of the illegal aliens here is that the government of their country is so corrupted and incompetence that they don't care about their citizen and we the American citizens shouldn't be paying for that. Right now we are paying big money for the illegals in our country and is not fair. We the American citizens help all these country, including Mexico, with millions of dollar every year so they help their citizen come out of their miseries and what do they do, nothing. Right now it is better for the Mexican government to send their citizen to the USA that to create new laws in their benefits, do you think this is fair? We have to send them back and let their government handle their problems, not us.

Yes, anybody committing an act of illegality should be exposed to the full force of the law pertaining to that country.
Therefore people entering a country without permission should be deported immediately upon discovery.
I am of the opinion that costing the tax payer by punishing the offender/s in the country entered is not necessary.
Rather the authorities in the country they came from should do the punishing as they see fit.

They wanted to be here , how could anyone be " suprised " ?
That is common , they stay in a house usually , yes. Or walk through Arizona and take buses. None of this should be a " suprise".

Should they stay here though? No .
